A. SCHWIBINGER.
STOVE HOOD. N0. 286. 43. Patented Oct. 16, 1883.
u. m Wuhan mm o.c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUST SCHWIBINGER, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
STOVE-HOOD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,643, dated October 16, 1883.
Application filed June 6, 1883. (NomodeL) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUST SOHWIBINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of iscou'sin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Hoods; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, whiohform a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a device to be used in connection with oil or other stoves, for receiving and conducting the unpleasant odors arising from combustion in the stove, or from food when cooking, from the room.
My invention is further explained by ref erence to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a longitudinal vertical section. Fig. 2 represents a horizontal section drawn on line X X of Fig. 1.
Like parts are represented by the same reference-letters in both views.
A represents a conical-shaped receiver, which is suspended, with its mouth downward, over the stove B from pipe 0. The
pipe 0 is suspended from the chains E E, which pass over the pulleys F F.
To the lower ends of the chains E is attached a weight, G,which counterbalances the pipe 0 and receiver A, and retains them at any desired point of adjustment. The pipeO is telescoped within the pipe H, and is adapted to be moved upward and downward therein. The pipe H is connected bypipe I with the chimney, through which. it is brought in communication with the exterior air. The pulleys F are supported by the arms J, which are attached to the exterior pipe, H.
K K are frictionrrollers which are attached to the upper end of pipe 0.
L L are friction-rollers which are attached to the exterior pipe, H. The rollers K and L prevent the pipes O and H from coming'in contact as the receiver A' is raised and lowered. I
To prevent the weight G from swinging and soot and dust from falling on the stove, an in- .closing-pipe, M, is provided, having a bot tom, X. As the receiver A is drawn downward over the stove B, the counter-weight G is caused to ascend in thepipe M; When the receiver A is raised above the stove, said weight G descends. The weight G and receiver A are about equal in weight, whereby the receiver will remain in any position desired. The inner ends of the arms J are con nected with the annulus 0, from which the pipe M is suspended.
. To prevent foreign substances from drop- .ping down from the pipe upon the stove or its contents, a receptacle, T, is provided, which is connected with the receiver A by the hangers R.
S are chains by which the pipe is rigidly retained in place.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the receiver A, pipes 0, provided with rollers K, pipe H, provided with rollers L, supporting-arms J, provided with pulleys F, pipe M, chains E, and weight G, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AUGUST sorrwrnnvenn.
