VALBERT T. EDXVARDS, OF SOUTH KNGSTON, RHODE ISLAND.
PAINTQBRUSH HOLDER.
sPEorEIoATIoN forming per: of Lei-.ters Patent No. 286,405, dated october e, 1883.
Application filed January 3, 1863. (No model.)
. provided within suitable number of holding To all whom t moby concern: y t
Be it known that I, ALBERT T. EDWAEDs,
of South Kingston, Tashington county, Rh ode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paint Brush Holders, of which the following is u speeilieation, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part thereof.
Theobject of this invention is to provide a convenient ldevice for holding and suspending paint-brushes when not in use, and at a suit able heightubove the p21-int or other liquid in which their bristles `indy be immersed to keep them moist, so thzit the binder of the brushhezid when bound with twine may not become soaked and prematurely rotted, und so that the brush will not hear upon the bottom of the peint-pot, and the bristles become bent, broken, or crooked, und injured'i'or use thereby.
My invention consists in a iianged ring provided with :L spring-clasp or series of clasps or holding devices arranged upon it, so as' to hold the brushes by their handles in n substantially vertical position over the tub or paintpot to which my invention is applied.
The drawing shows -in perspective and in brokensection one of my improved holders asin practical use. y
The tub A supports upon its upper edge the ring B, which. is kept in position thereon by ai flange, C, depending from itsinner or outer margin, or `from both, as shown in the drawing. The ring vshould haveV suilieient breadth to adept it for use on tubs, palils, or kegs of varying sizes; or :i series of sizes of rings may be made to fit any of the ordinary paint-pots. The upper surface of the ring is some cases.
devices, projecting inwardly, and adapted to seize the handle of e brush ,and hold it by n yielding pressure atthe desired height. n
Any convenient form of spring-clamp nin-y vbe used. The illustration shows one similar to a. clothes-pin, with the nrms pivoted together by the lpin which unites them to the ring, the spring being interposed between the outer ends of the latrms. One arm of each pair -may be cust integral with the' ring B C when the Y device is of cust metal, us I contemplate in The :trticle may, however, be mainly of wood or of sheet metal, if preferred.
I am uwerevof the patent to Joseph Lemoine, dated April 30, 1872, for brush-holders, in which two concentric vessels are employed, with a. series' oi' spring brush-holders sepurately hinged at the upper edge of the outer vessel, so as to swing vertically back when not in use und hong outside of the outer vessel. Said device is destitute of zt removable ring carrying the series of springs and furnished` with jaws or 'clamps to hold it upon t-lieredge of n. tub, and hence does not embrace my invention.
Having thus described my improved paintbrush holder, l. claim" The iianged ring B C, provided with a series of'spring-holders, und adapted to support the.` I
brushes at any desired height, substantially as end for the purposes herein set forth.
ALBERT T. EDVARDS.
