UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MATTHEW" G. BOGIA, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
TOY..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,379, dated October 9, 1883.
' Application filed September 6, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATTHEW 0. Boom, a citizen. of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toys, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which of a brick, containing a set of. blocks of the form of bricks, which may beplaycdwith, producing an interesting toy.
It further consists in marking on or affixing to the blocks geographical names, thus rendering the toy instructive.
Referring to the drawings, A represents abox of the cont-our and appearance of a brick, the ends of the lid and body of the box being removed in Fig. 1 to show the telescopic fitting of the same, to which, however, the invention is not limited, as OhhBffOIlllS of lids may be employed, the box being made of paper, wood,
and other suitable materials. The box is filled with a set of blocks, B, of the form of bricks, which, when removed, may be played with, as building-blocks, the game of snake,
866., the resemblance of the blocks to bricks increasing the interest of the toy. Geographical names 0 are affixed, printed, or otherwise marked on the sides or ends of the blocks, so
that the blocks may be geographically ar- Y ranged'or otherwise set up, thus adding instruction to the game. The names employed in the present case are those of the States and 0 Territories of the union, and a name, Dis
trict of Columbia, is marked on the box, thus completingthe list of the States, &c., of the United States; but the naming of the blocks and box may be varied, it being evident that 5 historical and other names may be employed in lieu of geographical names.
\Vhen play with the blocks is finished, they are'properly packed in the box and the lid thereof applied and closed, the appearances 50 of a full-sized or large brick being again presented.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 55 1. A toy box of the form of a brick, substantially as and'for the purpose set forth.
2. A toy box of the form of a brick, containing a set of blocks of the form of bricks, substantially as and for'the purpose set forth. 6o
3. A toy block of the form of a brick with aname thereon, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. I
4. A toy consisting of abox of the form of a brick, and a set of blocks of theform of bricks 6 5 filling said box, and having names or charactersthereon, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. MATTHEXV C. BOGIA.
