UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM E. KELLOGG, E INDErENDENcE, IOWA.
TIMBER-TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 285,818, dated October 2, 1883,
7 Application filed July 24, 1883. (1\'o model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. KELLOGG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Independence, in the county of Buchanan and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trucks for Loading and Unloading Timber, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to improvements in trucks for loading and unloading timber; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the same, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and pointed out in the claim appended.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view of my device, and Fig. 2 is a top View of the same.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the truck, consisting of four legs, a a a a, cross-bars b b, a broad top board, 0, and hand-lever bars (I d at the sides of said truck. I
B indicates a revolving hearing or frame, having vertical side bearings, e e, in which is journaled a roller, f, the side bearings ex tending somewhat above the roller for a purpose hereinafter explained.
Through the center of the base-board of the revolving frame is made a vertical perforation to receive a bolt, 9, that also passes through a vertical perforation in the center of the broad board 0 of the truck, and provided with a nut,
h, on its under side, thus pivoting the revolving frame to the truck. Between the truck and frame are interposed'washers i 1', which are perforated to receive the bolt g.
The legs a a are shorter than the legs a a,
and are provided at their lower ends with transporting-wheels is k, by means of which the truck is carried from place to place.
In operation the timber is rested upon the roller of the revolving frame, which serves as a fulcrum therefor, and the same can be loaded or unloaded from the right or left, and the ex tended sides of said frame serve to turn the frame with the timber.
The truck is put together with bolts, and the several parts are mortised to fit one another. Therefore it is a knockdown truck, and can be packed for shipping, taking up very small space.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The knockdown truck constructed as herein described, consisting of the legs a a a a, handbars d d, cross-bars b b, andhaving the transporting-wheels k k, and a revolving frame, B, having the roller f, the whole adapted to operate as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
