1 Claim. (Cl. 40-158) This invention relates to photograph album leaves and more particularly to a new and useful improvement for mounting photographic prints and the negatives from which the prints are produced.

Photograph album leaves of various types and kinds have heretofore been proposed in which the various means provided for mounting the prints have proven satisfactory. However, the negatives from which the photographic prints are made, are not provided for and are usually placed in some other receptacle or destroyed whereby if it is desired to have new prints made, it is a burdensome and time-consuming task to find the proper negatives for producing the new prints.

The primary object of the present invention is to provide a photograph album leaf having means for mounting a print along with means for mounting the negatives from which the print was made so that the negative may be easily accessible and identifiable with its corresponding print at all times.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a photograph album leaf which will satisfactorily maintain a print and negative in place, on the leaf.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a photograph album leaf holding a print and negative which may not be easily damaged under abuse.

A still further object of the present invention is to provide a photograph album leaf having all the aforesaid advantages which is nevertheless inexpensive to manufacture and easy to produce. p a

The album leaf made in accordance with the present invention consists of a sheet 21 preferably of a relatively stiff, but nonetheless, substantially flexible piece of material, as for example, cardboard, which has been provided with a glossy finish. While the sheet 21 is described as a relatively stiff but nonetheless flexible material, it will be understood that the album leaf may comtheprint with which the negative is retained.

As shown in Fig. 1, each corner portion of the sheet 21 is provided with mounting means. The mounting means are disclosed in the form of cuts 22 adapted to receive the corner portions of a photographic print 23 shown in dot and dash lines in the drawing. Heretofore, after mounting the print on an album leaf, no provision has been made for the storage or retention of the negative and as a consequence negatives are lost or destroyed whereby it has oftentimes been found impossible to make additional prints from the negative when desired. According to the present invention, means are provided, whereby the negative may be retained along with and in association with the photographic print itself, and while not detracting in any way from the appearance of the print or the album leaf itself, is nevertheless easily accessible to any person desiring to use the, same for producing additional prints identical with In order to accomplish this beneficial result, a set of mounting means 24 are provided'which are in spaced relation to the set of cuts 22 while being on the same plane as the set of cuts. As shown the mounting means 24 are in corners of a negative 26. This construction is most advanta'gedusWhen the negative 26 is of a smaller size than I the print 23 in the manner popular today wherein so- It will be noted that the negative "26 is completely concealed bythe print 23 itself and is located behind the print.

Thus the negative in no way impairs the appearance of the print and as the mounting means are concealed behind the print the appearance of the album leaf is also only necessary to remove the print to obtain access to the negative.

'As shown in the enlarged section in Fig. 3, the portion 27 of thealbum leaf 21 in which the mounting means or cuts 2.2 and 24 are located, is preferably embossed. This construction has been found advantageous insofar as it maintains the print and negative out of contact with the next album leaf when arranged in a book or the like. Any suitable fastening means (not shown) may be utilized for securing the album leaf in a book, index, or the like.

In Fig. 4 there is disclosed a preferable construction of the completealbum leaf of the present invention. As shown, the leaf 21 comprises a blank of material which is folded back upon itself to form

28 and 29 whereby the prints 23 and negatives 26 on the sheet 28 are prevented from engaging or in any way contacting the prints 23 and the negatives 26 on the sheet 29. Thus, a construction is provided which has strength and durability and which will not be subject to damage despite abuse. It will be understood, of course, that the intermediate sheet 30 may be omitted from the construction, whereby the album leaf will comprise only the two

28 and 29 each containing the mounting means 22 and 24 for holding the prints 23 and negatives 26. In addition each

28, 29 and 30 may be separate and se cured together at their edges by any suitable means.

In Fig. 6 a modified form of the present invention is shown, which is adapted to be used when the negative and print are of substantially the same size. The mounting means are again shownas cuts 22. Within the zone 25 defined by the cuts 22 a set ornaps; 31 is provided, located in spaced relationto t'he' cuts 22. j The flaps 31 are adapted to receive the edge portions of the negative 26 and overlie the same. It will be notedt hat this construction will maintain a negative of substantially the same size as the print located behind the print and concealed thereby and is particularly advantageous in this respect. V H y H I In Fig. 7 another modified form of the present invention is shown, in whieh themounting means are again provided in the form of cuts 22. Intspaced relation to said set .of cuts 22 and located within the zone defined by said'set of cuts, diagonal slits 32 are provided. These slits'are located on the same plane as the cuts 22 and are' adapted to'rec eive two opposite end portions of a negative 26. It will be understood that the negative 26 will be maintained behind the prints 23. Depending upon the size of the s'lits, this construction maybe utilized for negatives which are smaller than the prints, those of substantially same size as the prints, or if the slits are made wide' enough, eventhose negatives which are larger than the prints themselves.

In Fig. .8 still another modified form of the present invention is shown which is adapted tobe utilized when the negative 26 is larger than the print itself. In this form the mounting means for the prints are shown as slits 33, although it will be understood that cuts or any other suitable mounting means may be utilized. In

spaced relation to and on the same plane as the slits 33 vertical slits 34 are provided which are adapted to receive the end portions of the negative 26. As shown, the negative which may be larger than the print rests in a horizontal plane across the album leaf. This type. of construction as aforesaid has been found particularly advantageous when the negative is larger than the print, as for example, when a contact print is used or-a reduced print is used.

In Fig. 9 still anotherlmodified form of the present invention is shown. In this construction the mounting nieans for the print are again shown as slits 33. On the same plane and in spaced relation to the slits 33 are two slots forming a band 35. The negative is inserted through the slots with portions extending above and below the same. The band 35 maintains the negative in position behind the print.

While for the purposes of economy the mounting means has been as hereinbefore described, has cuts, slots, or slits provided in the albnin leaf itself, it will be understood that separate mounting means, such as fastening tabs glued to the album sheet, or any other suitable mounting means apart from the album leaf itself may be used in practicing the present invention. In addition while various forms and arrangements of the means for mounting a negative in association with the print itself have been specifically set forth, many other types of mounting means and other arrangements of the cuts, slots and slits may be used to accomplish the same result. Therefore, it will be understood that variations and modifications of the structure set forth may be made Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.

,,An album comprising a sheet of material, said material being scored atintervals to provide a first end printmountingportion, ,anoppiosite end flap portion and an intermediate print mounting portion, said portions being relatively .pivotally. movable ,withrespect to each other, said first and said..intermediate portions each including a, print mounting section depressed laterally below but ,being substantially parallel to the plane of one side of said sheet, andqsubstantially centrally of their respectiveportions, a set. of corner receiving mounting means consisting of flap-like members integral with each oi said first and intermediate portions positioned spatially and being within and substantially in the plane of said depressed .sections respectively in opposed pairs, each of said, pairsbeingadjacent opposite edge portions of their respective depressed sections, asecond set of opposed mounting means consisting of flap-like members within andsubstantiallyin theplane ,of each of said depressed portions respectively, the latter membersbeinglaterally inwardly of the respective first mentioned set of corner receiving mounting means.
