HAIR CURL CLIP Sebastian Wirsing, Astoria,'N. Y., assignor to Emed Inc.,
Astoria, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application November 12, 1954, Serial No. 468,255
1 Claim. (Cl. 132-48) This inventiongenerally' relates to-hair clips and more specifically provides a curl clip in order to clip the hair to maintain it in a formed curl. 1
An object of the present invention is to provide a hair curl clip of simple construction which is readily formed from a pair of upper and lower elongated gripping members having a bowed end portion rockably secured on the other and whereby it is rockable into and from hair gripping relation to the other.
Still another important object of the present invention is to provide a hair curl clip constructed of two members as in the foregoing, and with a longitudinal central gripping strip connected to one end of the upper member and to one end of the lower member to rock the upper member into gripping relation to the lower member and which is bowed and of undulating form to grip and curl hair between the same and the lower member.
These, together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view'showing the hair curling clip of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a top plan view showing the construction of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a longitudinal, vertical sectional view taken substantially along a longitudinal center line of the hair curl clip of the present invention;
Figure 4 is a transverse, vertical sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 4--4 of Figure 2 showing the details of construction of the rocking connection of the hair curl clip;
Figure 5 is a transverse, vertical sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 55 of Figure 1 showing the relationship of the gripping members of the hair curl clip of the present invention; and
Figure 6 is a side elevational view showing a modified form of the hair curl clip of the present invention.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, it will be seen that the numeral 10 generally designates the hair curl clip of the present invention including generally a lower elongated gripping member 14 and an upper elongated gripping member 12 positioned in overlying relation to the lower member 14 and which are rockably connected adjacent corresponding ends thereof by means presently described.
The upper member 12 generally includes a pair of parallel and spaced gripping legs 18 which are connected together by a front transverse end portion 20 of the member 12. The legs 18 are also connected together by a rear transverse end portion 22 of the upper member 12 and which forms a finger engaging portion. The legs 18 adjacent the rear end portion 22 are formed with bowed portions 24 terminating in the rear end portion 22 and which are bowed toward the member 14 and rockably seat thereon. Integrally formed with the bowed portion. 24 is a pair'of downwardly projecting guides 28 having inturned ends 30 for engaging under the. lowcrmember 14 for retaining the upper member 12 on the lower fmernber 14 above and in longitudinally aligned relation thereto.
The lower member 14 generally includes a pair of side, parallel and spaced gripping legs 32 forming prongs beneath the legs 18 and which are provided with free front ends 34 and are connected together by a rear end plate-like finger-gripping portion 36 of the lower member 14. A central gripping strip member 38 isprovided in the upper member 12 that is integral with the portion 36 of the lower member 12 and with the front end portion of the upper member 12 and which extends longitudinally of the members 12, 14 between the pairs of legs 18, 32 thereof. It is to be noted also that the inturned ends 30 of the depending guides 28 of the bowed portions 24 of the upper member 12 engage under the finger grip portion 36 wherein rocking movement of the bowed portions 24 of the upper member 12 is permitted when the rear end finger engaging crosspiece 22 is urged toward the finger gripping portion 36. The central strip member 38 is generally constructed of a plurality of waves, or undulations, which enhance the gripping qualities of the hair curl clip 10. The entire hair curl clip 10 is constructed of an inherently resilient material and the central strip member 38 is bowed toward the lower member 14 when in normal condition, the arrangement being such that the upper member 12 is urged toward the lower member 14 by rocking on the bowed portion whereby to rock the legs 18 and said central strip member 38 into hair gripping relation to the legs 32 as shown in Figure 1. When the portions 22, 36 are pressed together the upper member 12 is rocked away from the lower member 14 as shown in Figure 3 into hair releasing position together with the strip member 33.
Referring now specifically to Figure 6, it will be seen that the numeral 42 generally designates a modified form of the invention wherein the lower member 50 is constructed in exactly the same manner as that illustrated in Figures 1-5 and the operation of the device is substantially the same except in the device as illustrated in Figure 6, that the central gripping strip member 44 is straight while the legs 48 01? the upper member 46 are wavy or undulating to enhance curling of the hair and enhance the gripping action of the hair curl clip 42.
In each case, the hair curl clip 10 or 42 is constructed of rust-proof material having the necessary inherent resiliency such that the gripping strip member 38 or 44 urges the upper and lower members together by rocking the upper member toward the lower member 14.
From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A hair clip comprising a pair of upper and lower elongated members, the upper memberhaving a pair of laterally spaced longitudinal legs and transverse end portions connecting said legs, the lower member having a, pair of laterally spaced longitudinal prong forming legs between the legs of the upper member, and said lower member having a transverse end portion connecting the legs of 1 Fatented May 6, 1958.
saidlow'er member'and forrning with one end portion of the upper member a pair of finger-grip end portions on said members movable toward each other, the legs of the upper member being bowed toward and roekably secured to andsejatedon the lower member wherebymovement ofQsaid finger-grip portions toward each Other will rock thefpair of legs of the upper member away from the pair of legs, of the lower member for insertion of hair between said pairs of legs,.and a strip extending longitudinally of gripping relation to the, legs of the lower member anal to. urge the legs ofthe upper member into hair gripping Ielatiorito the legs of the lower member, and said strip being undulating in form for waving hair between the same and, the legs of the lower member.
