A TTOKA/E I! United States Patent Office 3,416,202 RESILIENT PLATE CLIP Takenori Sasaoka, 3072-2, Koiwacho, Edogawa-ku, Tokyo, Japan Filed July 19, 1967, Ser. No. 654,561 Claims priority, application Japan, July 24, 1966, 41/ 69,811 3 Claims. (Cl. 24-259) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A resilient plate clip is disclosed here, very simple in construction and use and very economical in manufacture. According to the present invention, a resilient steel plate is folded in two portions, a long slit is formed in one of these two portions, both ends of said slit are pressed so that said slit portion can be made resiliently infiective in opposite directions. This resilient plate clip is different from conventional ones of prior art in that the central part and end part of said slit portion have only to be pushed by the finger tips to open and close in opposite directions alternately.
Brief summary of invention The present invention relates to a resilient plate clip characterized in that a long slit is formed in one of two folded portions of a resilient plate and said slit portion is pressed near both ends of said slit, thereby making said slit portion resiliently infiective in opposite directions.
The object of the present invention is to introduce a resilient plate clip without using any other part similarly in the case of conventional clips, and hence similarly economical in manufacture and convenient in construction such that the central part and end part of one of two folded portions of a resilient plate have only to be pushed by the finger tips to open and close the same in opposite directions alternately in pinching an article between both folded portions thereof. The construction and action of the invention will be explained best with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Brief description of the drawings FIGURE 1 is a plan view of a resilient plate clip according to the present invention. FIGURE 2 is a sectional view of the same, taken along the line AA of FIGURE 1. FIGURES 3 and 4 are respective side views to show an inflected condition of one of two folded portions of the plate clip.
Detailed description According to the embodiment shown in the drawings, there is formed a longitudinal slit 3, 3 mm. wide, in one 1' of two folded portions of a resilient steel plate 1 from the folded edge 2', and both edge portions 3 and 3 of said slit 3 are pressed from both sides so that said slit portion 1 can be made resiliently infiective in opposite directions. The action thereof will be clear as follows.
3,416,202 Patented Dec. 17, 1968 As shown in FIGURE 3, the plate clip is firstly understood to remain in open condition. After an article has been placed between the two ends of said plate clip, the top of said slit portion 1' is pushed downwardly by the finger tips so that said portion can be inflected in one direction as shown in FIGURE 4 until the article can be pinched tightly by said two portions 1' and 1".
In order to release one portion from the other after pinching engagement, the central part of said portion 1' is pushed downwardly by the finger tip until it is inflected in the opposite direction as shown in FIGURE 3. By these alternate operations, it is possible to pinch and release an article between both portions at will.
Thus, different from conventional clips, the plate clip of the present invention is very simple in manufacture without requiring other elements, very economical in manufacturing cost and very convenient in construction and suitable for general use in treating hair, etc.
What is claimed is:
1. A generally U-shaped cross section clip adapted to be employed and used in treating hair to retain a curl in place, said clip being formed from suitably flexible material provided in the longer leg thereof with an enlarged longitudinal slot having the lateral ends thereof pressed inwardly in such a manner that the clip may be readily sprung open or snapped closed by finger pressure as desired.
2. A clip adapted to be employed in holding an article comprising a pair of longitudinally extending legs made of a suitably flexible material integrally secured together by a U-sha-ped section, the clip displaceable between a closed position wherein a portion of the leg surfaces spaced from said U-shaped section are urged together and an opened position wherein said legs are spaced apart for inserting an article therebetween, one of said legs having a longitudinally extending slot formed therein, said slotted leg being pressed on both of its surfaces at the ends of the slot therein whereby said slotted leg is flexibly infiective in opposite directions relative to the other said leg whereby it can be displaced between the opened and closed positions of the clip.
3. A clip as set forth in claim 2, wherein said leg having the slot therein is longer than the other said leg.
