Description

To all whom it may concern F UNITED STATES PATENT ()rriciz.
JOHN BAPTISTE, DUFO'UR, or GALLIPOLIS, OHIO,
. BABY-WALKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 283,222, dated August 14, 1883. application filed Aimee. ces. (No model.)
Be it known that I, J OHN B. DUFOUR, a citizen of the United States, resident at Gallipolis, in the county of Gallia and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby-Walkers and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and toletters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1. of the drawings is a side view of my baby-walker. Fig. 2 is also a side view. Fig. 3 is a top view, and Fig. 4 is a detail view.
This invention has relation to movable supports designed to teach young children to walk; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, as hereinafter set forth, andparticularly pointed out in the appended claim. p
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A'designates the flat body portion of the support, consisting of two sections, B and O, usually made of pieces of "board, and hinged together at the edge on one side, as indicated at or hearing, F, will be provided, which is de- (Z. The inneredge of eachsection is cut away semicircularly, as at e, so that when the sec-.
tions are closed together a circular opening signed to encircle the child under the arms,
which rest on the upper surface of the body A.
The sections B and O are each provided with inwardly-inclined legs G, arranged in pairs, one pairbeing attachedto each section and braced by means of a transverse round, h.
The legs are provided with casters 'm;
lower portion of the support is firmly braced and the entire support is held closed.
(1, indicates a seat, which is provided on its upper face with a pad or cushion and on its under face, near one end, with swinging keepms 12, made preferably of rectangular staple form, and secured to the said seat by staples or eye-bolts a, and are adapted to embrace the leg-connecting rounds, which support the seat thereon and allow the same a sliding movement. The seat is narrow and the leg-coir necting rounds located below the body-supporting sections a suflicient distance to permit the seat when not in use to be turned up out of theway, but, if desired, may be entirely removed from the frame.
A small bolt, 1), serves to connect the sections B and G on the hinge.
side opposite to the Above the margin of the circular opening F is arranged an annular cushion or yielding bearing, H, which is made in semicircular sections L, the meeting ends of which are in the planesof the meeting edges of the body-sections B and O. The sections L are supported by small spiral springs 2, which also serve to connect them to the sections B and 0. sections L are connected together on one side by means of a small hinge, o, and 011 the other side by a small hook, I. l
When the support is opened, the springs will allow the sections toseparate on one side sufficiently to admit the child, which is placed in position with the yielding bearing H un- .der its arms. fastened by means of the hooks. The child is The support is then closed and Having described this invention, what I claim, and d In a support for teaching children to walk, the combination, with the fiat hinged bodyesire to secure by Letters Patent,
