UNITED STATES:
WILLIAM KENDALL, or LoeANsroRT, INDIANA.
PORTABLE BATH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 283,117, dated August 14, 1883.
Application filed December 19, 1882. (No model.)
To all ichom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ,WILLIAM KENDALL, of
Logansport, Gassucounty, Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Port able Baths, of which the following is a specification. v p v My invention relates to improvements in those portable bathing apparatus which, in
" association with a suitable tub, possess a reservoir or water-holder capable, of elevation to any desired height above the tub by means of a cord and windlass, so as to be available for use-as a shower bath; and my present devices are especially designed as improvements on the subject-matter of my Patent No. 250,926, granted December 13, 1881, in which a showerbath apparatus is made available for use with a common hip or otherbath-tub, with which itfirmly connects when in condition for use, and
.from which it is quickly and easily detached for separate use of either tub or shower apparatus, or both, and by which the component members of the shower apparatus are easily separated from one anotherfor compactjstowage or transportation.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of abathing apparatus embodying'my improvements.
Fig. 2 is a detached representation of my base and the lower portion of my gallows-frame. Fig.- 3 is a perspective view of my preferred form of tub, from which a portion is broken away to exhibit the mode of construction. Fig; 4 is a vertical section of a portion of the tub. Figs. 5 and 6 are respectively a perspective view and vertical section of my preferred form of two-way cook or faucet.
A represents a bed or base, preferably of wood, the same being a rectangular or trapezoidal open frame, composed oftwo'parallel bottom strips, a a, crossed by two upper strips,
. a c, at a snfficient distance from the ends of II I/ a, a to leave projecting portions a .c oted to the portions a a, near theirextremi- .ties, are buttons B B B B.
My gallows-frame consistsof two feet, 0 C, which have gains c on their under sides, at their ends, to fit overand rest upon the pro jecting ends a a of the strips a a, in the man- .ner shown in Fig. l, where they are retained by the buttons B B B B.
Rising from middle of feet 0 O are the posts D D of my gallows-frame, which, with its reservoir Hand suspending-Windlass G, may be substantially of the construction described in my aforesaid patent, to which reference may be made for more specific description of these parts.
preferably formed, with a notch, a, through which projects a handle, 0, from the spigot O,
fully-closedoondition of the cock.
My preferredconstruction of tub V is as follows: The body E is formed of galvanized iron or other suitable sheet metal, with the horizontally inward to form flanges e. "The bottom is formed of a slab, F, of wood, of shape corresponding to the lower transverse section of the body, and of just so much less dimen= sions as, when incased in the sheet-metal lining R, to snugly fit the lower portion of the body and rest upon the flange e, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The joint as, between the edge of the bottom and the body-wall, being then soldered, thus secures the parts permanently together and renders the vessel water-tight.
through the body into the bottom. Wooden cleats or battens T T, fastened transversely to the bottom, serve to stiffen the same, and also serve, by their engagement on the outside of the base-piecesc6 a, as shown in Fig.1, to hold the tub to its proper position upon the base. i i
It willbe seen that my shower apparatus and my tub are capable of ready separation, and that either one may be used independently of the other.
I claim as new and of my invention- 1. In a portable bathing apparatus, the .standcomposed of base a a a a ed a, buttons B B B B, feet 0 O, and posts D D, substantially as set forth.
