Description

UNITED. STATES PATENT QFFICE.
DAvID JEWETT, OF LYNN, MAssAc'HUSnTTs.
IMPROVEMENT IN BATHING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 73,015, dated February 1, 1876 application filed April 14, me;
same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of' this specification, in which Figure 1 is an isometrical perspective View, showing the apparatus in use; and Fig. 2, a sectional view, showing the Windlass.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawin g.
My invention relates more especially to that class of bathing apparatus which is designed to be' used in surf or sea-shore bathing; and
consists in a bathing house or car provided with compartments and screens, and arranged to be advanced to'a'nd withdrawn from the water by means of track and proper tackle, all as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
It is well known that in sea-shore bathing the pleasure is, in most cases, materially lessened by the journey necessary to be made in order to reach and return from the water, which, in the case of many invalids, is frequently too great to be borne.
My invention is designed. to obviate this objection; andto that end I make use of apparatus which will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters from the following description In the drawing, A represents a bathing house or car, which is mounted'on the wheels or trucks- D, and arranged to run on the track the screens set, as shown.
E. This car is divided into a series of compartments or rooms, c c, and provided at each side with a platform or walk, I, railing H, and steps K. Disposed in the compartment B in one end of the car there is a tackle or windlass, G, provided with the cable or hawser F,
one end of which is attached to a post or some 7 fixed object on the shore, and the'other to the Windlass, and by which the-car is caused to traverse the track as desired. Pivoted at t' i to the railing or sides of the car there are screens J, which are designed to be extended laterally, to shut 0d the view of the bathers from the shore, when the car is in the position shown in Fig. 1.
In the use of my improved apparatusit will be obvious that the bathers may enter the located either in the car or stationed 011 shore at a distance from the water, as preferred.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is- The improved apparatus for bathing purposes, consisting of the car A, operated by a Windlass; on a suitable track, and provided .with compartments 0, side platforms I, rail ings H, and steps K,
substantially as described. I
DAVID JEWETT.
