Application July 13, 1956, Serial No. 597,716
2 Claims. (Cl. lli-145) This invention relates broadly to display devices and more particularly to the provision of a structure to be secured to the top of a parking meter for display purposes. Pursuant to the invention, display advertisements may be positioned in frame members in turn secured to the top of a parking meter, the device being adapted to conform to various outlines of the tops of parking meters, including a novel means for assembling and disassembling the frame members receiving the advertisements and for securing the same to and removing them from the parking meter.
Pursuant to a feature of the invention, an adaptor is provided which may be secured to the top of the parking meter so that the frame members may in turn be secured to the adaptor and thus secured to the parking meter top.
The foregoing and other objects of this invention are described below and shown on accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary, partly sectional elevational view of the top of the parking meter to which a device of this invention is shown secured,
Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view of the tubular post member and associated channel frame members embodying the invention,
Fig. 3 is a medial, fragmentary, vertical sectional view taken through the device of this invention and through the top of a parking meter to which the same is secured,
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary, tcp plan view of a closure plate member of an outline conforming to that of the relative planar dispositions of the frame members adapted to be secured to the upper ends thereot` to close the same, and
Fig. 5 is a horizontal, sectional view taken on line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
As shown in the drawings, the device of this invention comprises a tubular post member lli, which may be unitary, or, as shown in the drawings, may be formed of a pair of sectional tubular elements 11, 12, having interlocking parts 13, 14 for securing them in predetermined registered relation. A pair of U-shaped channel frame members 15, 16 (Fig. 2) is secured to the tubular post in spaced relation, and a second pair of channel U-shaped frame members 17, 18 is secured to the post at a plane intersecting the planar disposition of the iirst mentioned pair of channel frame members. An elongated mem ber 19 (Fig. 3) passes through the post members and engages the meter, to secure the frame members thereto. To that end, the top of the meter 2% may be provided with an internally threaded recess 21 and the member 19 provided with a complementarily threaded extension at its lower end 22, proportioned for threading directlv into such recess 21, to thus secure the members 11. 12 directly to the member 2li. (Or, as in Fig. 1) an adaptor 23 may be provided to be secured to the meter and the Fatented Apr. l, 1958 ICC members 11, 12, in turn secured to the adaptor which has an internally threaded recess 24 (Fig. 3) with which the lower end 22 of the tubular post 10 of the member 19 may have threaded engagement; a bolt 7.5 may be provided passing through the adaptor and into the parking meter threaded recess 21 (Fig. 3) to secure the adaptor to the meter. The lower face 26 of the adaptor may be formed tlat, or concave and a gasket 2.7 may be positioned intermediate the meter 2li and the lower face of the adaptor 23 to compensate for any difference in the relative curvature or arrangement of said surfaces and to seal the device against the atmosphere. If desired, the adaptor may be provided with a seat portion 28 for reception of lock washer 29 between the shouldered lower end Sti of member 19 and the internally threadedk recess 24 of adaptor 23. A plate 35 (Fig. 4) of an outline conforming to that of the relative planar dispositions o fthe pairs of frame members is adapted to besecured to the upper end thereof to close the same as, for eX- ample, by providing the upper ends of said frame members with projections or studs 36 (Fig. 2) to be received in the downwardly channelled arms 37, 3d of the plate 35 which is thus registered with the upper ends of the frames and closes the same. The channel frame members 15-13 are adapted to receive advertising or display cards such as shown at 39, dii, lil, 42, 43, dit, 45, 46 (Fig. 5) to thus display the same above the top of the parking meter 2li (Fig. 1). The elongated member 19 may be provided with an enlarged head Sil which may extend beyond the aperture 51 in plate 35 to thereby secure the parts together in assembled relation as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use of the device, the adaptor 23 is secured to the top of the parking meter Ztl and may be maintained there permanently if desired, for the reception of the associated parts above described which may be secured to or removed from said adaptor readily and conveniently.
We claim:
l. A device adapted to be secured to the top of a parking meter for display of advertising matter thereon comprising an elongated post member, means to secure said post member to the meter, an upwardly opening channeled U shaped frame member, open at its upper end, secured to said post member, a second upwardly opening channeled U shaped frame member open at its upper end secured to said post member from the first mentioned channel trarne member, a pair of channelled LJ shaped upwardly opening frame members secured to said post in parallel horizontal planar disposition to the first member channel frame members, and means for closing the upper ends of all of said U shaped frame members.
2. in a device as set forth in claim l, said means for closing the upper ends of all of said frame members comprising a plate of an outline conforming to that of the relative planar dispositions of said frame members secured to the upper ends thereof and closing the same.
