4 Claims, 6 Drawing Figures VERSATILE GRILL SUPPORTS This invention relates to versatile decorative grill supports, and more particularly it relates to grill accessories. In the main this invention provides for a number of fasteners which may facilitate and help the fastening of decorative grilles to doors, windows and frames. In particular these fasteners and brackets will permit fastening or attaching a decorative grill to aluminum doors and windows of standard make.
Applicant is aware that there are a number of decorative grills on the market who may be provided with facilities for direct attachment to doors and windows. Furthermore, there are a number of fasteners and brackets on the market which permit fastening of decorative grills to doors and windows. However, the present invention differs entirelly from anything which is commercially available. The main object of the present invention is to provide a number of bracket accessories which will permit mounting a decorative grill to doors and windows as an accessory and also as a permanent ficture. The brackets in question will permit removal of said decorative grills from doors and windows with ease to permit quick interchange with other grills.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a number of bracket accessories which may have screw openings so as to facilitate fastening or securing said accessories to aluminum doors and windows with ease.
A further object of the present invention is to provide left-side and right-side brackets to facilitate mounting a decorative grill to doors and windows.
An additional object of this invention is to provide brackets which will house and contain the fastening screws so that they do not interfere with the removal of the decorative grills and their interchange at will.
A still additional object of the present invention is to provide spring means to hold the decorative grill tight and always in place within the confines of the bracketed means which hold the grill 'to the door or window.
Additional objects of this, invention will become apparent as the description of this specification will proceed. This invention also consists in certain other features of consturction; and the combination and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and specifically pointed out in detail in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, references will be made to the accompanying figures where like character numerals denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which:
FIG. I is a front elevational view showing the embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged view showing the embodiment of the present invention in detail;
FIG. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of one of the fastening brackets being used in connection with the present invention;
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of another modification; and
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of still another modification.
It is understood that the present form of disclosure is merely for the purpose of illustration only, and that there might be various modifications thereof, without departing from the spirit of the invention as herein set forth.
Referring now more particularly to the embodiment of the present invention, best shown in FIG. 1, it comprises, in combination, the screen or aluminum door 10, which may be provided with a decorative grill 11. The latter may comprise and consist of the pair of the parallel flat rectangular rods 12 and 13, respectively; and the cross-shaped rods 14 and 15, respectively. The extreme ends of the rods 14 and 15 for the sake of decorative purposes may have arcuateextensions, substantially as illustrated in FIG. I.
It can be readily discerned that the first rectangular rods or bars 12 and, 13, at either end thereof may be twisted from the horizontal to form the flat vertical end sections 12a and 12b, and 13a and 13b, respectively. However, this condition is not a part and parcel of the present invention. The decorativescreen or grill 11 may be of any possible form and design. It suffice, however, that the grill is provided at least with four appropriate flat, rectangular lugs which in this case are represented by the extensions 12a and 12b, and 13a and 13b, respectively.
Reference now being had to FIGS. 1 and 4, at least at four places upon the screen door 10 there may be provided four bracket accessories indicative by the numerals 16, l7, l8 and 19, respectively. FIG. 4 is a perspective view of one of these bracket accessories forniing the embodiment of the present invention. We note that the bracket in FIG. 4 may be' formed substantially of a pair of vertical walls 20 and 21, and the cross bridge which connects the walls 20 and 21 to form a vertical U. In like manner we note that the walls 20 and 21 may be connected by a similar cross bridge 23 to form a horizontal U". The walls 20 and 21 have each a screw hole. By means of the clearence hole 210 and the screw hole 20a it is possible to secure the bracket 20 to the door 10. From FIG. I it can be seen that the grill 11 requires two pairs of brackets similar to FIG. 4. One pair right handed brackets and one pair left handed brackets.
FIG. 5 represents a modification of the mounting bracket shown in FIG. 4. In this case there may be provided an additional vertical wall 24 (not shown). This wall contains the fastening hole-24a (not shown). Accordingly, when the fastening screw is inserted into the clearence hole 21a it passes free to enter the second clearence hole 20a and then by means of the hole 24a the screw secures the bracket 20a to the door 10.
FIG. 6 shows an additional modification. In this case the vertical U" is formed by the wire end 25, while the horizontal U is formed by the wire end 26. The armate end 27 is here utilized for fastening the wire fastener to the door 10 in a similar fashion in which the bracket 20 is secured to the door by means of the screws S, substantially as indicated in FIG. 3. Each bracket may have a spring latch 27.
A careful examination of the foregoing description in connection with the invention as illustrated in the drawing, will enable the reader to obtain a clear understanding and impression of the alleged features of merit and novelty, sufficient to clarify the construction of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Minor changes in shape, size, and materials, and rearrangement of parts, may be resorted to'in actual practice, as long as no departure is made from the invention claimed.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and original is the following:
1. A bracketed fastener for mounting a decorative grill to doors and windows, comprisingi a plurality of left and right brackets each formed in the shape of a vertical U having a pair of upright walls with a first cross piece connecting said walls to one another and holes centrally located in each vertical wall forming said brackets; a second cross piece coupling said pair of upright walls at an edge adjacent said first cross piece to form a secondary horizontal U for receiving an end of a member to be held by the fastener; and wherein a section of said second cross piece is separated to form a spring tongue, said tongue facilitating locking the decorative grill in place to prevent disengagement from said bracketed fasteners.
2. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 wherein a free end of said tongue extends inwardly between said upright walls.
3. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 wherein said upright walls are substantially parallel and co-extensive and wherein one of said walls is positioned adjacent a door or window and said hole therein is circular and formed to receive a fastening screw flush with a surface of said one wall adjacent the member receiving portion of the bracket, and wherein the hole in the other of said upright walls is circular, in alignment with, and larger in diameter than said hole in said one wall.
4. A wire clip for receiving and holding grillwork or the like comprising: j
a single piece of wire forming a first loop which defines a vertical elongated U-shaped member opening at one end,
a second loop defining a horizontal elongated U- shaped member opening at one side and contiguous with the opening of said first loop, and
a circular segment formed at one end of said wire for receiving a fastening screw therethrough.
