DASH BOARD FOR VEHICLES.
No. 282-511. Pat e ntg Aug. 7, 1883..
4 INVENTOR.
ATTORHEYS Y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOINVILLE F. FOWLER, OF ALLIANCE, OHIO.
DASH-BOARD FOR VEHICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 282,511, dated August 7, 1883.
Application filed May 16, 1883. (No model.) 7
To all whom/ it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OINVILLE F. FOWLER, a citizen of f the United States, and a resident of Alliance, in the' county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dash-Boards; and I do I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one end or corner of a dash-board provided with my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line :20 :0, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to improvements in removable dash-boards and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of a dash-board of that class in which the dash-frame is adapted to be removably secured. to irons which are permanently fastened to the body of the vehicle; and it has for its object to secure the dash-board to the body of the vehicle in a neat and convenient manner.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the bottom rail of a rectangularframe with square or rounded corners, said rail being provided with lugs or projecting pieces a a, one near each end.
B represents a metal strip or piece having a head, b, in which is a groove, 0, adapted to fit the lug a. The lug a is recessed on its upper side, as at d, to adapt it to receive the end of a set-screw, 6, working in a screw-threaded aperture in thetop of the grooved head of the iron B, the said screw serving to hold the dashboard firmly in position, and effectually prevents it from being loosened by any outward pressure. p
The dash-board is secured in place by sliding the lugs on its lower rail into the grooves c in the heads b of the irons B, the said irons being permanently secured to the body of the vehicle.
groove, d, on the upper side of the lugs a, the
I From the foregoing description, taken in 5o connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction of my improved dash-board will readily be understood, without requiring further explanation. y
By constructing my improved dash-board in the manner described I am enabled to make the lugs a a of a considerable less thickness than the width of the groove 0 in the head I) in which they fit, which arrangement allows of the dash-board being readily and easily removed from the vehicle or placed in position thereon. At the same time, by placing the set-screws e in the top of the grooved heads of the irons B, with their ends bearing against a set-screws 6 may be turned to secure the lugs a a in position as firmly as may be desired without forcing the dash-rail out of contact with the outer faces of the irons B, which would be the caseif the screws were set in the back of the heads b. In Washing out the in- 7 side of the vehicle it will also be found that by placing the set-screws 6 upon the top of the heads b of the irons B, I remove them out of the way of the rag or brush which is used in cleaning or washing, out the vehicle.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- In a dash-board fastening, the combination, with the iron foot or fastening B, having a grooved head, I), provided with a screwthreaded aperture in the top, of the removable dash-frame A, provided with inwardlyprojecting lugs a, integral with the frame, and grooved longitudinally at d to adapt them to receive the lower ends of the binding-screws e, which are inserted vertically through the heads of the fasteningirons B, as shown and specified. v
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' JOINVILLE. F. FOWLER.
J. G. McKENZIE, I n G. W. Boo'rrr.
