Description

G; A. STANLEY.
L CANDLE-mom BOX.
No. 28,210. PATENTED MAY 8, 1860.
77/7 llzl/ QNLY DRAWING ACCESSIBLE. (191s).
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEO. A. STANLEY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
CANDLE-MOLD BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,210, dated. May 8, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, G. A. STANLEY, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Candle-Mold Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the construction and operation of the same, refen ence being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, in which Figure 1, is a perspective view. Fig. 2, is a top view. Fig. 3, is a vertical section.
Like letters denote like parts in the different views.
The nature of my improvement, consists, in constructing a mold box of such a form, as to cool the sprues of the candles, as rapidly as any other part. In the ordinary mode of molding, the sprues cannot be cooled near as quickly, as the lower parts of the candles, and consequently the rapidity of molding is in this way greatly hindered.
In Fig. 1, A, represents the lower section of the mold box; B, the upper section, D, E, F, &c., the molds of the candles. The lower section A is constructed in the form of a box, with two rows of molds on each side of the upper section, B as is represented in the several figures.
The wicks being fixed in the mold, the tallow or stearin is poured in the molds, in the usual way when the lid is removed from the upper section B; and the water and ice, are put in at H, Fig. 2; filling all the space in the mold box; up in the section B far enough, so that the water comes up to the top of the lower section all around the sprues of the candles, so that they will cool as quickly as any other part.
In the old method, when the water is filled in up to the top of the molds, as it may be, it slops over whenever the mold box is moved, which is very objectionable, and the sprues of the candles do not 0001 near as rapidly, as with my arrangement, which very much delays the rapidity of moldinocandles. It will be observed that a mold box constructed in the way herein described, water can be poured in sufiiciently high to answer the purpose, without any inconvenience whatever arising from it.
I am aware that there is a box in use; constructed similarly to the lower section A, without any upper section. In such a box the water being warmed the heat of it rises to the top, around the sprues of the candles, and in that way prevents them from cooling. 'With my improvement, the heat of the water when it rises, passes up into the section B, thereby keeping the water around the sprues cold, which is not the case in boxes without the section B.
hat I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
The special arrangement of the upper section B, with the candle molds, when operating, conjointly, and in the manner specified.
GEO. A. STANLEY.
