Description
e. A. STANLEY.
Candle M0\d.
Patented Juiy 31 18 60.
Nor 29,416.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEO. A. STANLEY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
APPARATUS FOR MOLDING CANDLES.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 29,416, dated July 31, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, G. A. STANLEY, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Candle-Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, refer ence being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure l, is a perspective view of the machine, and Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section.
Like letters denote like parts in the views.
The nature of my improvement relates to a circular arrangement of the candle molds in a frame or box, by which a larger number of molds can be arranged in a given space than in the ordinary way, and the ease and facility with which this improvement can be worked allows candles to be made with much more rapidity than when done by the ordinary means.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
The general form of the molds and box or frame is seen in Fig. l, in which A, represents the outside circular casing, to which are attached two heads B, C. In the center of the upper head O, is an opening D, around which extends a rim or flange E, above the head C. The outside casing- A, also extends above the head C, forming a flange or rim F. By means of the flanges E and F, a recess G, is formed on the upper head O, above the molds H, which molds are connected to the head C, and extend down to, and through the head B, as seen in Fig. 2.
The melted tallow, etc., is poured into the recess G, so as to pass into the molds which being surrounded by ice, or cold water in the circular chamber I, the candles are cooled, and which may be removed by any of the ordinary means employed for this purpose, and which may be connected with the box A, by any proper means, so as to operate in connection with the molds.
With my improvement I have all the advantages contained in the ordinary square or oblong frames and I have other novel features which distinguish my improvement from all others, the circular arrangement of the molds in a frame or box suitable for the purpose. Having a long experience in the practical working of the ordinary candle molds, it is found that with my improvement the molds can be handled with much more ease and rapidity and that a larger number of molds can be arranged in a given space than in the usual way, thus enabling the operator to make more candles in a given time and with less labor, than in the ordinary way of arranging the molds, in the boxes or frames.
That I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The special arrangement of the molds in a circular form in combination with a frame or box suitable for the purpose, in the manner and for the purpose substantially as described.
GEO. A. STANLEY.
