IMPRovl-:M ENT IN T oBACCo-SCREWS.
Speeication forming part of Letters Patent No. 27,631, dated March 2T, 1860.
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that we, N. Holler and W. H. TAPPEY, of the city of Petersburg, county of Dinwiddie, and State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improvement on 'a Tobacco-Screw; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speeication,

Our invention consists in the construction of two plates with slats and key for the purpose of supporting a heavy lever in tobaccopress screws.
D represents the body of the screw, with the plates A tted loose and the plate B keyed tight thereon.
E represents six slots or openings, as shown in Fig. B, in which a key, F, rises and falls alternately as the lever G, with plate A, moves backward and forward. By reversing the key F the motion of the screw will likewise be changed, so as to move up or down.
H is a turned disk in Fig. B, raised for plate A to work thereon. The backward motion of plate A causes key F to rise by means of the bevel point I, and consequently drops into each succeeding slot or opening.
The operation will be readily understood. By turning plate A by means of lever Gthe key F will alternately move up and down, and cause plate B, with screw D, to be operated as desired.
The above implement is extremely cheap, simple, and works well.
