GARMENT DISPLAY DEVICE Filed Feb. 24, 1956 IN VEN TOR.
HARRY A. WALLIS ATTORNEY.
United States atent O GARMENT DISPLAY DEVICE Harry A. Wallis, Los Angeles, Calif. Application February 24, 1956, Serial No. 567,549 3 Claims. (Cl. 223 6 8) This invention relates generally to a display device for garments or wearing apparel. More particularly, the invention pertains to a device which may be used with an ordinary hanger underneath a garment or wearing apparel to efiect a flufiing up for display thereof.
At the present, great pains are taken with salesmens samples and store samples in wearing apparel or garments to effect a fiufiing up action of the garment or apparel by insertion underneath of various fluffing material such as tissue papers and the like and pinning them manually at appropriate places to the garment. The garment is then suspended from a hanger by the garment shoulders and assumes a position which will show forth its general configuration with apparent roundness and flufied out appearance. This approach is rather costly and requires many man hours of labor to effect a proper pinning and tissuing thereof.
The present invention overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art in that it is a prefabricated device which may be generally adapted to the size of the garment or wearing apparel with which it is to be used. The device need merely be inserted in the wearing apparel or garment and suspended with the garment from a hanger thereby giving the garment the fluifed out appearance deemed necessary for display and selling purposes.
It is an object of this invention to provide a new and novel device for a display of garments or wearing apparel.
It is another object of this invention to provide a device which when inserted underneath a wearing apparel or garment will efiect a simulation of the body contours.
It is another object of this invention to simulate and accentuate the body contours of wearing apparel or garments for display purposes.
It is another object of this invention to efiect a flufiedup appearance in wearing apparel or garments for display purposes.
It is another object of this invention to provide a device essentially comprising a body member which member is of simple manufacture.
Other objects and advantages than those set forth will be apparent from the following description when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing an embodiment of the invention when used to display of a wearing apparel;
Figure 2 is a side view of the embodiment of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a detailed view of the body member with its strap elements attached thereto.
Figure 1 shows a wearing apparel or garment 10 into which has been inserted the display device 11 of the present invention. The display device efiects fluffing up and simulation with accentuation of the body contours of the garment 10. Both the garment 10 and the display device 11 may be suspended from an ordinary hanger 12.
The display device 11 comprises, generally, a unitary substantially planar body member 15 having an upper part or waist supporting part 16 and a lower part or skirt supporting part 17. As clearly shown in Figures 1 "ice and 3, the transverse width of the lower part 17 exceeds that of the upper part 16 to aid in the extending or holding out of the skirt of the garment. Body member 15 may be made of any known substance such as plastic, cardboard, heavy paper, wood or the like. At the upper part 16 thereof are attached by any well known means, such as stitching, staples, buttonsor the like, a pair of 'strapl elements18. The strap elements are spaced apart from each other and attached generally adjacent opposed extremities of the transverse dimension of and to the upper part 16. The strap elements. 18 may be carried by the hanger 12 and in turn carry the body member 15 and the materials it supports. Generally in the vicinity of the lower part 17 of the body member is atransvers'ely'posi tioned elongated receiving opening 20. The opening ma be of any general configuration, however is showninj the particular embodiment as generally trapezoidal in nature. Inserted through the opening is a quantity of flufiing material 21 such as tissue, crepe paper, crinolinei or like materials to effect a flufied out or flufling up action when inserted underneath the garment 10." The lower, portion of the flufiing material as shown in Figures 1 and 2, extends well below the lower extremity of lower part 17, and, may be trimmed in a manner to terminate the flufiing material either congruent with or within the lower part of the garment 10. The trapezoidal shape or form of the opening aids in properly bunching the fluffing material through the opening with the trapezoidal sides aiding in the outward directioning or flaring of the flufied material to accentuate the lower portion in the fiufling out of the garment.
The body member 15 has sides 22 which are curved to simulate human body contours. These sides 22 may be of a generally convex curvature down to the waistline 24. At the upper part periphery of the body member is a bodice simulating curvature 23. The bodice curvature 23 further gives the appearance of the garment wearers bodice or under garments.
As many garments have an accentuated waistline with a general convex curvature from the shoulder portion to the waistline 24 the curvature being simulated by the body contour sides 22, the predetermined distance or length 25 from the shoulder of the garment to the waist line is important. This distance 25 varies with the size of the garment. Therefore, it is important in the display device to effect the proper predetermined distance 25 for a particular size garment. In other words, the strap elements 18 and the upper part 16, together, have a dimension which is the substantially fixed length 25 corresponding to waist length, i. e., from garments shoulder to its waist, of a selected size of a garment to be supported upon the display device 11. The distance 25 may be adjusted slightly by lengthening or shortening the particular strap elements 18.
From waistline 24 on down, the body member has an outward projection 26 to simulate the hip curvature of the garment.
In operation then, the display device 11, with its strap elements 18 properly adjusted and its body contour 22 properly predetermined for a particular size, is fitted with a predetermined amount of flufling material 21 inserted through the elongated opening 20. The entire display device may then be suspended by the straps 18 fi'om the hanger 12. The garment 10 is then slipped over the hanger 12. The display device 11 effects a flufied up appearance of the garment, presenting it ready for display in any selling use thereof.
Although but one embodiment has been illustrated and described, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made therein without the parting from the spirit of the invention or from the scope of the appended claims.
