Description

June 1959 R. L. WALLIS GARMENT DISPLAY nsvxcs Filed March 21, 1958 INVENTOR. Rum Lssrse WALLIS.
A TTOENE V United States Patent DISPLAY DEVICE Ruth L. Wallis, Los Angeles, Calif. Application March 21, 1958, Serial No. 722,920 3 Claims. (Cl. 223-68) The invention relates generally to a display device to be used with garments or wearing apparel. More particularly, the invention pertains to a device or means for displaying garments wherein the garments may be independently mounted upon an ordinary garment hanger and the device afiixed underneath and to the garment itself to effect simulation of a wearer of such garment.
Great pains are taken with garment salesmens samples, as well as store samples, to display garments in most life-like and salable manner so as to maximize simulation of body contours of such garment while being displayed to a person desiring to purchase such a garment. The various devices used to create this simulation have various deficiencies insofar as handling, cost and usage are concerned. The present invention advances the art by supplying a very simple device which itself may be attached directly to the garment to simulate a wearers body curves and contours giving the garment a life-like appearance.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved means to more effectively display garments to simulate body contours therein.
It is another object of this invention to provide a very inexpensive and simple means for display garments.
It is another object of this invention to provide a means for displaying garments which is of simple construction and can easily be manufactured by inexperienced personnel.
Other objects and advantages than those set forth above will be apparent from the following description when read in connection with the accompanying specification and drawings, in which:
Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 all show various shapes and embodiments of the invention shown generally in elevation;
Figure 5 is a side view of the invention as shown in Figure 4; 1
Figure 6 is a view along section line VI-VI of Figure 2;
Figure 7 is a view, rotated 90, along section line VII- VII of Figure 2 rotated 90.
Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 all show embodiments of the invention. Figure 1 shows a subteen model; Figure 2 a teenage model and Figure 4 a child model. Adverting to Figure 3 for a general explanation, Figure 3 shows a pair of planar body members 10, 11, shown in detail in Figure 5. The body members 10, 11 may be separate panels of cardboard for example. Both members 10, 11 may be similar. Of course, one of the members may have a difiering terminating shape at the top if desired. Body members 10, 11 have each a waist supporting part 12 and a skirt supporting part 13. Intermediate the skirt supporting part 13 and the waist supporting part 12 is a waistline 15.
The pair of planar body members are complementarily positioned one upon the other, aligning the waistlines and are preferably aflixed to each other at their sides 18 by any well known fastener means capable of joining together the sides of the body members, exemplified in the instant embodiment by staples 19. Intermediate the body " ice members 10, 11 is defined a receiving opening 21 which is capable of receiving and supporting flufing material 23. Fluffing material 23, which may be of any well known light weight stifiened material such as stiffened tissue paper, is so positioned intermediate the body members as to aid in the display of garments 24 to be positioned upon the display means as detailed in Figure 3. The flufling material supports the garment 24 and outwardly extends the garment to fluff up such garment simulating a wearers contours.
The entire display means, as described, is positioned within garment 24 and attached to that garment by any well known means for supporting the garment display means with respect to the garment 24 to be displayed, such supporting means is herein exemplified by cord attached safety pins 25. Pins 25 are fastened by their cords to each of the opposing sides 18 of the joined pair of body members 10, 11. Each of pins 25 is preferably flexibly mounted and should have suificient length extension so as to permit fastening of the pins 25 to garment 24 about 1 inch above the waistline of the garment. Being so fastened to the garment, the total device 10, 11 and 23 is supported by the garment and has its wastline 15 substantially in alignment with the waistline of the garment. The garment may then be supported upon a hanger 27, as shown in Figure 3, and the entire garment with the display means is carried by the shoulders of the garment 24. The display device, being supported solely by the garment itself, is completely independent of the hanger. The hanger can be removed, the garment with the display means attached can be stored independently of the hanger. For future display, the garment is merely removed from storage and again suspended by its shoulders from any available hanger. The display means afiixed to the garment itself effects the desired fiuffing out of the garment to simulate the contours of a wearer. No further adjustment or readjustment after initial installation of the display means with respect to the garment is necessary upon subsequent display of the garment. The invention therefore materially simplifies the problem of displaying, handling, packing and redisplaying garment samples independently of the hangers used.
The embodiments illustrated and described may be changed and modified as will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. Means for displaying garments which means is adapted to be carried by said garments, comprising a pair of planar body members having sides, each member having a waist supporting part, therebelow a skirt supporting part and therebetween a waistline, said members being complementarily positioned adjoining each other, fastener means for joining together the sides of said body members, flufiing material for supporting and outwardly extending a garment supported thereon, said body members defining therebetween and intermediate said sides a receiving opening for receiving and supporting said fluffing material, said receiving opening communicating through the extremities of said body members perpendioularly to the waistline, and means for supporting the garment display means with respect to the garment to be displayed thereon.
2. Means for displaying garments which means is adapted to be carried by said garments, comprising a pair of planar body members having sides, each member having a waist supporting part, therebelow a skirt supporting part and therebetween a waistline, said members being complementarily positioned adjoining each other, fastener means for joining together the sides of said body members, fiuffing material for supporting and outwardly extending a garment to be supported thereon, said body members defining therebetween andintermdiate said sides a receiving opening for receiving and supporting said fiufiing material, said receiving opening communicating through the extremities of said body' in'embers perpendicu larly to the waistline, means for supporting the garment display means with respect to the garment 'to be displayed thereon, and said supporting means being aflixed to said body members adjacent said' waistline.
3. Means for displaying garments which means is adapted to the be carried by said garments, comprising a pair of planar body members having sides, each memher having a waist supporting part, therebelow a skirt supporting part and therebetween' a waistline, 'said members being complementarily positioned "adjoining each other, fastener means for joining together the sides of said body members, fiufiing material for supporting and outwardly extending a garment to be supported thereon, said body members defining therebetween and intermediate said sides a receiving opening for 'r'eceivingand'suppo rt ing said fluffing material, said receiving opening communicating through the extremities of said body members perpendicularly to the waistline, a pair of flexibly mounted safety pins attached one to each of the sides of said body members for supporting the garment display means with respect to the garment to be displayed thereon, each of said pins being afiixed to said body members adjacent said wastline and attached about one inch above the waistline and to the garment to be displayed thereupon.
