Singleton, Fort Wayne, Ind., assignor to The Tpidey Company, Inc., a corporation of Indiana This invention relates to improvements in a childs toilet adapted to serve also as a base for a secondary toilet seat used in conjunction therewith.

Customarily, a childs toilet. seat has back and arm rests 'and is provided ,withloops that extend downwardly from the bottom of theseat through the usual opening of an adult toilet to center and hold the childs seat in proper alinement therewith. Such structure constitutes an attachment for an adult toilet and functions only when usedtherewith. This type of seat is shown in U. S. Patent No.1 l, 675,297, gr anted June'26, 1928.

An object of the instant invention is to afford a childs toilet capable of functioning completely as such and adapted 'itdbesurmounted by a secondary childs toilet seat of the usual type and used in conjunction with the childs toilet.

Another object of the invention is to provide a childs collapsible toilet having removable leg frames and a readily detachable catch-pan.

Another object of the invention is to provide a childs toilet so constructed as to be used irrespective of the usual adult toilet facility and convenient when touring.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a foldable childs toilet that may quickly be erected and positioned on a floor or upon the ground in readiness for use.

And a still further object of the invention is to afford a childs toilet, so constructed that the parts thereof may be readily dismembered and replaced to facilitate transport or storage.

Other objects and advantages of the invention appear in the following description.

An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. l is a perspective view of a structure positioned for use in which the invention is incorporated;

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the base-seat inverted and the foldable and removable supporting leg frames disposed in unfolded position, one of the supporting leg frames being broken away; and

Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the base-seat on which a secondary childs toilet seat, of a common type, shown in dotted outline, is disposed thereon, shown in section.

The illustrative embodiment of the invention comprises a base-seat 4 having an opening 5, foldable leg frames 6 and a removable catch-pan 7 attached in the bottom of the base-seat. A downwardly extending rim 8 encompasses the opening 5, and a downwardly extending flange 9 encompasses the outer marginal edges of the base-seat.

In the bottom of each side portion of the base-seat adjacent corresponding portions of the flange 9, are located inwardly extending perforated lugs 10 that are spaced apart from the front and back portions 9'9" of the flange, and in said lugs are removably secured the distal ends of the corresponding bent extremities of arms 6' of the leg frames.

In the bottom of the base-seat there are provided other lugs 17 located adjacent the rim 8 that have back-turned hooks "18 to engage-and support the catch-pan 7 when in place. A slotted lug 19 is provided integral with the baseseat in the bottom thereof having disposed therein a latch 20 the proximal end of the latch being secured in said slotted lug 19 and thedistal end thereof being formed with a trigger '21 for manipulating the latch. The latch is so locatedas to have engagement with the inner rear sidecf the catch pan rim 22 (as shown in Fig. 3). This rim-2'2 also engages an abutment or pin 23. on the base 4 to belockedbetween this pin and the latch 20.

In use, the catch-pan is'slid-into position beneath the base-seatwith its side"rims' orflanges engaging the hooks 18 by which it {is supported and. secured by the latch 20, and theleg frames are' spread apart so the base-seat is sustained in operative position for use as a toilet. By manipulation of the trigger 21 the catch-pan is released so it can be readily withdrawn forwardly from the baseseat. The leg frames are then folded and the appliance conveniently packed to be stowed away.

If so desired, a secondary toilet seat is positioned upon the toilet above disclosed by placing it thereon so the loops 14 and 15, with which the secondary toilet seat is equipped, extend through the

12 and 13 in the base-seat by which the secondary seat is held in place and used in the same manner as when applied to an ordinary adult toilet. Thus, the secondary toilet seat is rendered adaptable for use in conjunction with either the base-seat or the ordinary adult toilet seat.

Variations from the particular construction above disclosed may be resorted to by the exercise of skill in the art, without departure from the spirit or scope of the invention.

What I claim is:

1. A childs toilet appliance consisting of a base-seat provided with a central opening therein having a downwardly extending rim around the inner margin of said opening, perforated lugs secured to the bottom of said seat, oppositely disposed leg frames engageable in said lugs for folding movement, other lugs located in the bottom of said seat provided with inwardly turned hooks, a catch-pan provided with a flange extending loosely in said hooks by which said catch-pan is movably supported, and a latch on said base seat engageable with said catchpan by which the catch-pan is held in place, said baseseat being provided with a circumferential downwardly extending flange having recesses therein alined with the perforations in said perforated lugs to permit removal of said leg frames when said frames are in selected positions.

A childs toilet appliance consisting of a base seat having a central opening and a downwardly extending inner rim, leg frames pivotally supported on said base seat to extend divergently outward when positioned for use, said base seat having centering openings located between its inner and outer margins for receiving portions of a secondary seat adapted to be mounted thereon, lugs in the bottom of said base seat provided with hooks, a catch-pan provided with a flange slidingly engaged with said hooks by which said catch-pan is supported, and a latch on said base seat provided with a downwardly ex tending flexible trigger portion engaging the upper inner side of the catch-pan to secure the latter against movem n t rtm h d h ok in t least e di e ion.

A childs gtoilet appliance comprising a base having a central opening, a plurality of apertured lugs provided on the bottom of said base, leg frames mounted in the apertures of said lugs for pivotal movement of said frames with respect to' said base, means on the underside of said base for detachably receiving a catch-pan in registrywith said-opening, a downwardly extending flange on the outer-perimeter of said baseand provided with recesses which are aligned with respective apertures of said lugs to permit removal of said leg frames from said lugs when the latter are in'predetermined positions.

4. A childs toilet appliance comprising a base having a central opening, a plurality of apertured lugs provided on the bottom of said base, leg frames mounted in the apertures of saidlugsfor pivotal movement of said frames with respect to said base, a downwardly extending flange on the outer perimeter of said base and provided with recesses which are aligned with respective apertures of said lugs to permit removal of said-leg frames from said lugs whenthe latter are in predetermined positions.

5. A childs toilet appliance comprising a base having a central opening, catch-pan-receiving members provided on the underside of said base adjacent said opening whereby a catch-pan may be mounted on said base in registry with said opening, and a manually operable latch carried by said base and having a yieldable portion which may be displaced for locking said catch-pan against movement in at least one direction, said portion having an inclined part adjacent said opening whereby a catch-pan may bear thereagainst and thereby displace said portion to allow movement of said pan to a position which will allow said portion to engage said pan in locking relation.

6. A childs toilet appliance comprising a base having a central opening, catch-pan-receiving members provided on the underside of said' base adjacent said opening for receiving a catch-pan in registry with said opening, and a manually operable latch carried by said base and being comprised of a spring element having an inclined portion adjacent said opening and a vertical portion remote from said opening, said vertical portion extending in a direction transversely of the plane of said opening, said spring element being displaceable whereby a pan may engage said inclined portion to force the spring element to one side during assembly of the pan.
