TOILET-SEAT ATTACHMENT.
Application filed August 23, 926.. Serial No. 180,874.
This invention relates to improvements in toilet seat attachments in which a seat for an infant is provided for use in conjunction with the usualtoilet seat for an adult.
The object of the improvement is to provide an easily attachable seat for a child, to be centered and held upon an adult toilet seat of usual construction, and to provide the childs seat with a folding back and side arms which will be held rigidly in upright positionwhen adjusted for use, and to arrange the arms and back so that the arms will be folded automatically when the back is moved to folded position.
These objects are accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig.1 is a perspective view of a construction embodying the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the invention applied to a toilet seat, which seat is shown in section.
The characters appearing in the description refer to parts shown in the drawings and designated thereon by corresponding characters.
The invention comprises a rectangular seat 1 having an opening 2 therein, the seat being proportioned so that when placed upon a regular toilet seat 3 it will cover the opening 4 therein. From the bottom of the seat 1 project wire loops 5 and 6 that extend into the opening 4 of the seat 3, in a well known manner, to hold the seat 1 centered upon the seat 3. Also, u on the bottom ofthe seat are provided rubber cushions 7 that bear upon the top of the seat 3 and prevent it froznlbeing marred by direct contact of the sea A swinging frame formed of wire is shaped so as to have a central U-shaped portion 8, o positely disposed offsets 9, and,
arms 10,.t e arms being contiguous with the corresponding Offsets at the outer ends thereof. The ends of the arms 10 are turned inwardly and project into the sides of the .seat 1 at corresponding points spaced from the rear end of the seat, and said frame has pivotal movement respectin the U-sha ed portion 8 o the frame is inserted a ack-rest 11, the frame being partially imbeddd in the upper edge and ends of the back-rest, and a brace 12, consisting of a metallic bar, is secured by screws 13 the seat. In
face adjacent its rear end for the reception 1 of the offset, and .a clip 17 is secured to the bottom of the arm-rest and extends beneath the corresponding ofi'set andinto the notch so as to secure the arm upon said offset. Each arm is supported at a point adjacent its forward end by a corresponding swinging arm 18, the upper end'of which is bent at right angles and extends into the side of the arm-rest, and the lower end of which is similarly bent and extends into the corresponding side of the seat 1, there being a metallic clip 19 secured to each side of the seat that overlaps the lower end of the swinging arm to secure it in place and limit backward swinging movement thereof. The arms 10 of the swinging frame, and the swinging arms 18 are so disposed in connection with the seat and arm-rests as to maintain parallelism throughout their movement.
A pin 20 projects from the rear end of the seat, and the lower end of the brace '12 is slightly outturned and has an opening 21 therein for the reception of the pin when the back-rest is elevated to its position for use, the brace and pin having latch engagement with each other so that the back-rest and frame in which it is supported are thereby sustained in elevated position upon the seat.
In the front end of, each arm-rest is secured a. screw-eye 22 to which is secured a breast strap 23, there being a snap hook 24 at one end of the strap that forms the connection between the strap and corresponding screw-eye, so that the strap ma be detached from one of said arms to admit of freedom in placing an occupant upon the seat.
In utilizing the invention, the back-rest is raised from the seat until the brace 12 is engaged by the pin 20, the arm-restsbeing raised with the frame and sustained by the swinging arms in elevated position. The clips 19 against which the swinging arms bear when the unfolding operation is completed, and in preventing an excess backward movement of the arm-rests and the frame connected therewith. The seat is then positioned upon the adult seat, with the wire projecting through the opening and arms contiguous with the ofi'sets respectively at the outer ends thereof, said arms being pivotally connected with said seat at corresponding points spaced from the rear end thereof; a back-rest positioned in the U-shaped portion of said frame, the frame being partially imbedded in the upper edge and ends of the back-rest; a pin projecting from the back-end of said seat; a brace secured to said back-rest, the upper end thereof being bent so as to extend over the top of the back-rest and frame, the lower end of said brace, having latch engagement with said pin when the frame is in unfolded position; arm-rests secured respectively adjacent their rear ends to saidoffsets; a swinging arm in pivotal connection at one of its ends with each arm-rest at a point adjacent the forward end thereof, the opposite end of said arm having pivotaL connection with said seat, said swingin arms having parallel relation with said f r 'ame; and a clip on each side of the seat operable to limit movement of the corresponding swinging arm.
2. A childs seat attachment for a regular toilet seat comprising an apertured supplemental sea; to be superimposed upon the 7 regular toilet seat, including means for holda ing it centered thereon; a swinging frame having pivotal connection with said seat at points on the sides thereof spaced from its rear end, said frame including a back-rest; a pin projecting from the back end of said seat; a brace rigidly secured at its upper portion to said back-rest, its lower end having latch engagement with said pin whereby the frame is sustained in unfolded position; a pair of arm-rests having pivotal relation at their rear ends respectively with the corresponding sides of said frame, said arm rests including supporting arms in pivotal connection therewith and with said seat; and a clip on each side of the seat operable to limit movement of the corresponding arm.
3. A childs seat attachment for a regular toilet seat comprising an apertured supplemental seat to be superimposed upon the regular toiletseat, including means for bolding it centered thereon; a folding structure including a back-rest and frame therefor pivoted to the seat, and arm-rests in pivotal connection with the frame and including supporting arms in pivotal connection therewith and with the seat; and a brace member in rigid connection with the folding structure and having latch relation with the seat whereby the folding structure is sustained in unfolded position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
