ELIAS HOXIE, OF IBED CREEK, NEW YORK.'
DASH-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 280,378, dated July 3,` 1883.
i Application filed December 14, 1882. (No model.)
l To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ELms HOXIE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing" at Red Creek, in the county of Wayne and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inDash-Boards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to improvements in that class of devices known as dashboards,77 and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same, as will bey hereinafter more fully explained.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which Figure 1 represents a side view of one corner of a dashboard. Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view.- Fig. 3 vis a side view of the molding. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the cap, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the corner cap.
The letter A designates a dash-board, of which a represents the leather covering, and b the iron frame, of the usual construction.
B represents the molding which overlaps the dash-frame, and forming on each side of said frame flanges c c, that are provided with perforations d d for the passage of rivets c c, that pass from one side of the molding to the opposite side and through the leather of the dash-board aforesaid. Said'molding is provided at the upper corners of the dash with miter ends which meet closely, and over which is placed a corner cap C, that is provided with perforations f f to receive a rivet, g, which passes through the molding and leather and secures the cap thereto. It will thus be seen by the above description, and by reference to the drawings, that I construct the top and side moldings of separate pieces of metaLand the miter-joints are secured and protected by the cap or hood C, which latter is constructed of one piece of metal closed at the top andside, while the opposite parts are open for attachment to the corners of the dashboard 5 also, it will be observed that the molding is an entirely separate article from the dash-board, as well as the corner cap or hood, C, being a separate piece from the molding and dash, and by the construction herein described I am enabled to dispense with soldering the parts together; and, again, it will be seen that my molding can be applied to dashboards now in use,
and protects the edges ofthe dash-board from the weather, and at the same time affords a covering for the edge which may be worn, and dispenses with stitching the leather around top, sides, or edges of dash-board, and it is durable, light in weight, ornamental, easily applied to the dash-board, and at the same time cheap to manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The molding B, constructed as herein described, each section formed of one piece of metal overlapping the dash, having miter ends, and provided with perforations d d for the passage of the rivets e e, in combination with the dash-board A, as set forth. 2. The cap or hood C, constructed as shown and described, having the top and side closed and the opposite portions open, and provided with the perforationsff, and secured as described, in combination with the molding B, constructed as set forth, and the dashboard A.
3. The combination, as herein described, of the perforated cap or hood C, constructed as set forth, of the sectional molding B, each section formed of one piece of metal overlapping the dash-frame, and having miter ends and perforations d d, and the dash-board A.
4. An'iattachment for dash-boards, consisting of a molding formed in sections, provided with miter ends, each section overlapping the dash-frame, and constructed of one ,piece of metal, having perforations in its sides or flanges for inserting rivets, whereby the same is secured to the dash-board, as described, and for the purposesset forth.
5. A corner cap for dash-boards,whereby the molding of the same is secured and the miterjoints hidden and protected, consisting of one` piece of metal constructed with two of its edges closed and the two opposite edges open, as shown, and having lateral perforations for rivets, whereby the same may be secured to the dash-board, substantially as described, and for the purpose specied.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELIAS HOXIE. Vitnesses:
C. O. PETERSON, L. B. DECKER.
