8 Claims. (Cl. 132-1) This invention relates to a bobby pin holder.
An object of this invention is to facilitate the use of bobby pins While a woman sets her own hair.
Another object of this invention is to permit a woman setting her own hair to pick up an open bobby pin with one hand while the other hand is holding a curl in the desired shape.
A further object of this invention is to provide a novel container for holding all of the bobby pins in an open position, whereby the woman setting her own hair can pick up with one hand an open bobby pin ready for use, while at the same time the other hand is holding the pin curl in place.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a device for bobby pins which will facilitate the work of a beauty salon operator in setting womens hair.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, this invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged View of the front of the device.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3 3, Figure 4, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 4 4, Figure 2, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5 5, Figure 3, and looking in the direction of the arrows; the bobby pins being shown in the storage compartment of the device.
Figure 6 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 6 6, Figure 2 and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary perspective view of the rack of the device or container.
Figure 8 is a perspective view of the slide of the device.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates the bottom part of a container for bobby pins, while 2 is the hinged lid or cover therefor. Within the bottom part of the container is a W-shaped rack 3 (Fig. 7). This W-shaped rack 3 is provided along its two outer longitudinal free edges with rows of notches, for receiving the heads of bobby pins, as shown in Figures 3 and 4. The rack is also provided with rows of apertures 5 in the sides of the inverted V-shaped central portion for receiving one leg of the bobby pins as clearly shown in Figure 3. Therefore, the user of the bobby pins places one leg of these pins in an aperture 5 with the other leg resting on the apex 6 of the W-shaped rack, Fig. 3.
Ihe container has on the end of the bottom 1 an opening 7 through which bobby pins can be passed into the bottom 1 for storage purposes. The device has a compartment 8 which provides a receiving or storage space under the center of the rack 3. On the end of the bottom 1 that has the opening 7 there are a pair of flanged guides 9. In these guides is a slide 10, which has a corresponding opening 11 to the opening 7 on thefbottomf 1. The slide 10 also has serrations 12 to enable theopfrom, as the operator desires- The slide 10 can be easily 'adjusted on the flanges 9,5whetherit is desirable to close opening 7 or open the opening forthe-purposedescribed.
Upon referring to Figure 4-it will be selen that they.'l bobby pinsare arranged in alternatingposition upon lthe rack, as specified.
Previous to this invention the only known system to open a bobby pin while a woman sets her hair was to use her teeth or finger nails. This invention provides a sani- -tary method and eliminates the damage done to her nails and teeth, and generally facilitates the use of bobby pins for a woman setting her own hair.
This container, constituted by the lbottom 1 and lid 2 may be made of plastic, or any other suitable material, and can also be varied in size and shape to suit the amount of bobby pins to be used for the purpose of setting hair.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of the invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and
I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or with a container, of a substantially W-shaped rack in said` container, said W-shaped rack provided with apertures in its central portion, and said rack also provided with receiving notches in its outer edges.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a container, a rack in said container, said rack provided with rows of apertures, the apertures in one row being in staggered position With respect to the apertures in the other row, and said rack provided with notches on its outer edges registering in position with said apertures.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination with a container, of a rack in said containen'said rack provided with side edges bearing against the sides of said container, said side edges being provided with pin-receiving notches, and said rack being provided with aper tures near its center registering with said notches.
4. In a device of the class described, the combination with a container, of a rack in said container, said rack being provided with free edges and a raised central por` l tion, said free edges provided with pin-receivingl notches, and said raised central portion being provided with receiving apertures registering with said receiving notches.
5. In a device of the class described, the combination with a container, of a rack in said container, said rack provided with a raised central portion and with outwardly-extending side portions, said outwardly-extending side portions provided with a plurality of notches on their edges, said edges normally bearing against sides of said container, and said raised central portion provided with apertures registering with said notches on said edges.
6. In a device of the class described, the combination with a container, of a rack in said container, said rack being of substantially Wshape, said W-shaped rack having a raised central portion having on one of its sides a row of apertures and on the other side with a row of apertures in staggered relation to the first-mentioned row, and said W-shaped rack being provided on its outer edges with pin-receiving notches registering with said rows of apertures.
7. In a device of the class described, the combination Patented June 25, V1957 withia' container, of a substantialrly W-shaped rack in said container, said 'W-'sh'ap'ed rack' beingprovidedwith apertures in its central portion, and with pin-receiving notches in its two outer portions.
