PAPER AND ENVELOPE PACKAGE.
. No. 279,283. Patented June 12,1883.
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAPER AND ENVELOPE PACKAGE.
SPECIFICATION forming To (1, whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. SPURGEON, of Houstonia, in the county of Pettis' and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Paper and EnvelopePackage, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal View of my improved combined paper and envelope package, showing it opened ready for writing. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal view of thesame, showing it closed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same, showing it partly opened.
A series of sheets, A, of writing or note paper, which may be ruled, if desired, are united at one corner by'an eyelet, B, or any othersuitable analogous device, by means of which eyelet the covering sheet 0 is held on the package. This covering-sheet is of the size of the sheets A, with an additional flap, D, having one edge out diagonally. The width of the flap D at the widest end may be equal to the width of the sheets A, or may be slightly greater or less, as may be desired. The flap D is gummed along the diagonal edge on the inner surface, and, if desired, the entire outer corner, E, may be gummed. The writer Writes on the sheets A, and then folds them over the eyelet B in the manner that the coveringpart of Letters Patent No. 279,283, dated Application filed August 14,1882. (ModeL) June 12, 1883.
sheet 0 is folded over the eyelet in Fig. 1. The writer may write on one or both sides of the sheet, as may be desired. The covering-sheet O is preferably creased at the base of the flap D, as shown at a in Fig. 1. The coveringsheet 0 is folded over the uppermost sheet A, the gummed edge and corner of the flap are moistened, and the flap D is folded over the lowest sheet A, to which it adheres, and the corner E is folded over the uppermost sheet A, to which it also adheres, thereby holding the package closed. The stamp can be gummed on the corner E or on the edge of the same'as a further security; More or less sheets A can be contained in the package.
The abovedescribed combined envelope and paper packageis very convenient, especially for travelers. It also affords very great conveniences in filling the letters.
If desired, the covering-sheet can be made of thicker paper'than the rest of the sheets.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 'A11 envelope formed of a sheet, 0, extended from fold a on one side to form the flap D E, in combination with two or more paper sheets, A, eyeleted to one corner of-sheet 0, whereby said paper may be enveloped, as described.
SAMUEL J. SPURGEON.
