Be it known that I, JOACHIM EMIL BERLIEN,

' of Altona, in the Empire of Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement i 11 Means for Attaching Corkscrews and other Articles to Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. l

This invention consists in a cover or false bottoni so fitted and secured to the bottom of the bottle as to inclose or partly inclose the cavity commonly provided in its exterior, and having secured to it the corkscrew, drinkingglass, or other article to be attached to the bottle, the said article being thus stowed away and secured in the said cavity.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of abottle having a corkscrew attached according to my i11- vention. Fig. 2 is an elevation, partly in section, of a bottle corresponding with th at shown in Fig. l, having a drinking-cup attached in place of the corkscrew. Fig. 3 is an elevation, partly in section, of a bottle with a drinkingcup attached, illustrating amodification of my invention. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section in the line .r w, Fig. 3.

In the example of my invention represented in Figs. l and 2 the false bottom or cover A, which may be ofwood, pasteboard, or other material, isV

fitted into the 'cavity B, commonly provided in the bottom of the bottle, and is therein secured by a strip or strips of paper, D, wound around the bottle and placed across the under side of the false bottom, the said strip or strips being fastened to the bottle, and preferably, also, to the false bottom, by being pasted thereto.

The corkscrew F, (shown in Fig. 1,) or the drinking-cup shown in Fig. 2, or any other article desirable to be so4 attached to the bottle and received within its cavity B is secured to the upper or inner side of the cover or false bottomA by means of wires, strings, or bands c c, fastened to the said cover or bottom, and passing around or through portionsof the said article.

In Fig. 2 the drinking-cup is shown provided with ears, through which the wires t QJ pass.

In Figs. 3 and 4 the false bottoni A is represented as made of metal,with upright clips c c, which pass over the exterior ofthe bottle, and are provided with inner teat-like proj ections, n n, which engage in notches formed in the sides of the bottle. The bottom A is also shown provided with inwardly-turned springclips i i, to secure to it a drinking-cup, G, which is contained in the cavity B of the bottle. The cup or other article to be attached to the bottle may be fastened to rthe false bottom or cover A by means of wires, strings, or bands, as hereinbefore described with reference to Figs. l and, 2. If the inner face ofthe false bottom A or A is polished or covered with metal foil to give it a reflecting-surface, and the bottle and its contents are transparent, the article attached to the false bottoni within the cavity B of the bottle has the appearance of' floating in the liquid.

The method of attaching the false bottom shown in Figs. 3 and 4 allows it to be easily Aand quickly detached from and reattached to the bottle when desired. The bottoni thus attached can be detached by first turning it slightly and then pulling it off, and can be reattached by simply reversing the operation.

This invention will be found useful for medicine-bottles, which it is found desirable to furnish with a measuring glass or cup of proper size for a dose.

Vhat I claim as my invent-ion, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination, with a bottle, of a false bottom or cover fitted to the bottom thereof' in such manner as to inclose the cavity in the exterior of thc bottle, and fastenings provided on or attached to the said false bottom or cover for the attachment of any article to the interi or thereof, substantially as described, and as illustrated in the accompanying sheet of drawings.
