H. O. GILL.
GROWN TERRET FOR HARNESS,
No. 279,149. Patented June 12,1883.
flaegzylvENToR- 2 ATTORNEYS WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HENRY O. GILL, OF MADISON, OHIO.
CROWN -TERRET FOR HARNESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,149, dated June 12', 1883,
Application filed March 26,1883. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY O. GILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Madison, in the county of Lake and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness Orown-Terrets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to crown-terrets; and it consists in so constructing and arranging the parts as to produce an improved article of vmanufacture, as will be hereinafter fully de scribed, and pointed out in the claim appended.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, Figurel represents a front view, and Fig. 2 a vertical sectional View, of the terret.
A designates the terret, the upper portion of which consists of an annular frame, in which a plate, a, is pivoted to swing through the opening in said annular frame. frame is supported on a shank, I), cast therewith, and below this shank b, and cast therewith, is a rectangular guide frame or base, having a rectangular opening, 0, for the stay-billets, overcheck-rein, or both, as may be desired.
The under side of the guide-frame is provided with the threaded portion (1 for the reception This annular of a nut that secures the crown-terret to the headstall. By this construction the rein or billet opening or space is brought close to the headstall and the strain upon the terret is greatly lessened. A terret provided with a rectangular space near its upper end and a circular space near a convex base, from which a threaded shank projects downwardly, has been used for round or flat reins, and such a device I do not claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters .Patent, is
HENRY G. GILL.
