UNITED STATES PATENT FFIGE.
GEORGE O. BUN GE AND LENVIS W. SAMMIS, OF BROOKLYN, Y., ASSIGN- OBS TO THEMSELVES AND \VILLIAM T. SEAMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
"CURRY-COMB.
SPECIFICATION.forming part of Letters Patent No. 278,869, dated June 5, 1883. Application filed Apri15,1883. (No model.) a
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE 0. Burton and LEwIs 'W. SAMMIs, of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Curry-Comb, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of our invention is to provide a new and improved curry-comb which can be held very easily while using it, and which is provided with cushions for preventing noise while knocking the dust out of the comb, and for protecting the wood -work of the stable from being injured by striking it with the comb while knocking the dust out of the comb.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of our improved curry-comb. Fig. 2 is a side view of of toothed plates, B, in the'usual manner, and
to the plate 0, to which the toothed plates B are fastened, a handle, D, is secured, which projects from the lower or rear end of the comb. The handle D is provided with a ring or loop, E, in the end, at the edge of the plate 0, which loop is to receive the thumb or another finger of the hand holding the comb.
7 On the upper surface of the plate a socket, F, is formed, at each side and at the front or upper edge, which sockets have their inner ends united by a rod, G, secured to the upper ends of the sockets and extending over the front edge of the plate 0, as shown.
The rod G can be made straight, or slightly curved, as may be desired. A piece of indiarubber, H, is secured in the outer open end of each socket, the said pieces of rubber projecting from the side edges of the plate 0, at the front or upper corners.
In holding the comb the thumb is passed through the loop E, and the ends of the other l four fingers are pressed against the outer surface of the rod G. The comb can thus be held very firmly, can be grasped easily, and does not tire the hand.
Stable-menknockthe curry-comb again'stthe Q In using our improved comb the stable-man v knocks the same against a wall, the floor, or some other object in such a manner that the cushions H strike the said object, thereby protecting the same and the comb from injury.
The cushion throws the comb back very rap- 6o idly, and thus causes the dust and dirt to fly out of the same more rapidly.
Any other suitable cushions can be provided in place of the pieces of rubber.
Having thus described our invention, we
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A curry-comb constructed with cushions or elastic pieces in the sides, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the pur- 7o pose set forth.
2. The combination, with a curry-comb, of the sockets F, secured to the same, and the rubber or other elastic object projecting from the sockets, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with a curry-comb, of the sockets F, secured on the same, the rod G, connecting the sockets, and the pieces of rubber H in the sockets, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
Witnesses: O. D. RHINEHARD,
ELMER E. SEAMAN.
