Application May 31, 1955, Serial No. 511,883 1 Claim. (Cl. 132-53) The present invention relates generally to hair appliances to be used in beauty salons and the home, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, novel means for molding or shaping a hair bang whereby a lasting, highly attractive, professional appearance may be expeditiously attained.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a hair bang mold of the aforementioned character comprising novel means for securing the device in position on the head.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a hair bang mold of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, durable, compact, comfortable and which may be manufactured at low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing a hair bang mold in accordance with the present invention in use;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device;
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view through the device;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a modification, and
Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view, taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Figure 4.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, and to Figures 1, 2 and 3 thereof in particular, it will be seen that the device comprises a substantially U-shaped pad or member of suitable dimensions which is designated generally by reference character 5. As illustrated to advantage in Figure 3 of the drawing, the pad 5, which may be of any suitable material, is substantially planoconvex in cross-sectron.
The pad 5 is tapered from its intermediate portion to its ends. Loops 6 of suitable flexible material are provided on the ends of the pad 5.
It is thought that the manner in which the device is used will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the flexible resilient pad 5 is posi- ICC tioned circumferentially on the forehead in the manner shown in Figure 1 of the drawing and secured to the hair, as at 7, by inserting conventional bobby pins 8 through the loops 6. The hair bang to be shaped or molded, as at 9, is then combed downwardly over the pad 5 in a fanlike fashion.
in the modification of Figures 4 and 5 of the drawing, reference character 10 designates generally a resilient, substantially U-shaped pad or member of plastic, metal or other suitable material which is adjustable for size. Toward this end, the member 10 comprises a pair of telescopically or slidably connected male and female sections 11 and 12, respectively, having loops 13 on the outer or free ends thereof. The longitudinal edges of the male section 11 are slidably engaged in integral, inturned guide flanges 17 which are provided .therefor on the longitudinal edges of the female section 12. The section 12 is provided, in its inner end portion, with spaced openings 14. Mounted on the inner end portion of the section 11 is a spring latch or detent 15. The detent 15 is engageable selectively in the openings 14 through an aperture 16 provided therefor in the section 11 for securing the adjustment of the member 10.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A hair bang mold of the character described comprising: a substantially U-shaped, resilient member adapted to be mounted circumferentially on the forehead beneath the hair to be molded, said member including a female section comprising integral, inturned guide flanges on its longitudinal edges and having longitudinally spaced openings in its inner end portion, said member further including a male section telescopically adjustable in said female section and having its longitudinal edges slidably engaged in the guide flanges, said male section having an aperture in its inner end portion for registry with the openings, a resilient latch on said inner end portion of the male section engageable selectively in the openings through the aperture for positively securing said male section in adjusted position, and means for securing the member in position on the forehead.
