'PATENT' OFFICE.

SUSPENDER-END.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,909, dated May 1', 1883. Application filed December 21, rss2. (Mofiei.)
To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be itknown that I, MORRIS SILBERs'rEIN, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at. New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Ends, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to improvements in in its original, attractive, and neat form.
This I accomplish in the manner and by the means hereinafter described and claimed, and
illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in
which- Figure l is a side view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section in the plane a" a', Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a side view in section.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates the tlat strip, which is made ot' paper, leather, buckram, or any other suitable exible material. It is advantageous to have the material of this strip possess a slight degree of rigidity or stiEness, as this enables the suspender-end to keep its form.
The letter B indicates the tubular braid.
C is a ring or loop, which may be made of twine, worsted, cotton, silk, or any suitable material of a tasty appearance. The braid B i may also be made of twine, Worsted, cotton,
suspender.
or silk, or similar suitable material, and the ring O and braid B will match as regards color and general appearance, so that the two will add to the pleasing' appearance of the entire The ring or loop C is attached to the lower extremity of' the suspender-end by sewing. The stitches are caused to pass through the braid B and strip A, so as to get the advantage of the combined strength of the two and prevent the liability ot' tearingor pulling out.
To conceal the stitches connecting the ring or loop C to the suspender-end, a band, D, is attached about the lower extremity of said end, which covers up'said stitches. This band l) may be either ot' textile material sewed` about said suspender-end, or it may be of thin sheet metal clinched about said suspenden end, or any other suitable flexible material of a pleasing appearance may be employed for this purpose.
To connect the suspender-end to the buckleconnection F, said end is sewed or clinched between the ends of a loop or attachingpiece, E, made of leather or other suitable material.
I am aware that round cords have been inclosed in tubular braids, and I do not intend to claim such here, as my object is .to have the inclosed strip within the tubular braid fiat and somewhat wide, so as to give the end an agreeable appearance, and also because a dat strip lies smoothly along the garments of the wearer and causes no inconvenience.
`The tubular braid B` may be formed or braided about the fiat strip A by machinery, thus enabling the end to be formed rapidly and cheaply, and avoiding any sewing or stitching in this part of the operation, while the braid can at the same time be formed closely about said strip A.
` I do not wish to be understood as broadly claiming a suspender-end having button-hole loops separately constructed and afterward attached, nor as claiming a braided suspenderend inclosing a cord, as in my 'patent before alluded to.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. As an improved article of manufacture, a suspender-end composed ot' a tubular braid, B, a dat strip, A, inclosed within the braid, and of a material which is exible, but suciently rigid to retain the braid in its original shape and prevent stretching, and a buttonhole loop or ring, C, attached bya connection which passes through the end ot thepbrad and also through the dat strip, substantially as described.
2. The combination, in a suspender-end, of the tubular braid B, the exible liat strip A, inclosed therein, and the button-loop C, separately constructed and attached by a connection which passes through both the braid and IOC) 3. The combination, in a suspender-mid of the tubular braid B, the flexible flat strip A, inelosed therein, and the button-hole loop O, separately constructed and attached by stitches 5 passing through both the tubular braid and its inelosed sustaining-strip, substantially us described.
In testimony whereofI have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
