UNITED STATES PATENT- OFFICE.
ALBERT HERMUNDSON, OF MISHA MOKWA, WISCONSIN.
CURRY-COMB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,817, dated May 1, 1883.
Application filed February 9; 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ALBERT HERMUNDSON, of Misha Mokwa, in the county of Buffalo and Stateof Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curry-00m bs and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompa nyingdrawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- I @Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved curry-comb, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
My invention has relation to curry-combs; and it consistsin the improved construction and combination of parts of a curry-comb having a slotted plate sliding upon the toothed strips, adapted to clean them and to adjust thelength of the teeth exposed, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the plate of a curry-comb, having the toothed strips B, of the usual construction, and provided with the customary handle, 0. This plate has in its center an upright, D, upon which slides a plate or collar,E, from which extend four or more or less rods, F, which are bent downward at right angles, forming four' uprights, G, which slide in openings H in the plate A, and to the ends of which a slotted plate, I, is fastened. This plate is of thesame size as the plate A, and has transverse slots J, into which the toothed strips B fit, upon which they slide. Aspiral spring, K, is placed between the upper surface of plateA and oollar E, wrapped around upright D, and serves to keep collar E, and through it the slotted plate I, up, while a lever, L, having its ful cruni upon a small upright, M, near the edge of plate A, has one end extended under the handle, while its other bifurcated end bears against the upper surface of collar E, riding on upright D.
It will be seen that by pressing the free end of this lever up against the handle the slotted plate will be depressed, thus cleaning the toothed strips from hair and dirt gathered in carrying the horse, and that by holding it nearer to or farther from the ends of the teeth the length of the teeth may beadjusted at will.
Having thus described my invention,I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. A curry-comb having a slotted plate sliding upon the toothed strips, and operated by a lever having its fulcrum upon the plate of the curry-comb and extending under the ban- .dle, substantially as and for the purpose shown andset forth.
2. Ina curry-comb of the described class, the combination of plate A, having toothed strips B, handle 0, and central upright, D,
with the slotted plate I, having uprights G, connected by rods F to sliding collar E,spiral spring K, and lever L, substantially as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT HERMUNDSON.
