Description

UNITED STATES 'IN'I FFICE.
J. F. SCHUFFENEGKER, OF KEOKUK, IOIVA.
BRICK-MOLD.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 27,652, dated March 2'?, 1860.
To all 'whom it may cof/wem:
Be it known that I, J. F. SCHUFFENECKER, of Keokuk, in the county otl Lee and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Brick-Molds with Movable Bottoms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speciiication, in which- Figure l, is a top view (or upper surface). Fig. 2, is a front view. Fig. 3, is another front view. Fig. e, is an end view.
Description of the from 'views Figs. Q, .3f-A, are the bottoms, B, are the molds; C, the handle of the molds; D, is a lever, the lower end ot' it has a slot; E an axle on which the lever D is acting; FO a rod which moves in a straight line and is supported by two guides G G, H is a Wrist Which connects the rod F, to the lever D, the slot in the lever is necessary in order to permit the rod F to move in a straight line. J J O is a partot' the rod F, and represents two Wedges which stand in an inclined position; K, a vertical slide with its upper part fastened to the bottoms; L, a guide Which holds the slide in a vertical position; I, IC cogs and parts ot the slide K. Tiese cogs are partiallyv in contact with the Wedges J, J O, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
Description 0f the @mi oz'cw Fig. 4,.-D, is a cross part oiE the lever D, the bottoms are pressed against the mold by that lever through the connections ot the rod F, Wedge J, cog I, and slide K, as shown Fig. 2. The
moving of the bottoms is eiiiected by the inn direct movement of the lever D, rod F,
Wedge J o, cog Io and slide K, as shown Fig. 3. M is a plate fastened to the handle of the molds, N, is a spindle fastened to the said plate. O is a lock bar which secures the bottoms to the molds and thus prevents the sand and mortar from settling between the bottoms and molds if it stands in a vertical position, as shown partially in the end view Fig. e.
The object of this improvement is, to effect a more easy delivery of the bricks upon the drying Hoor.
I will now describe the operation of the molds.
The bottoms are moved by the tivo motions half right and half left as shown Figs. 2 and 8. Place the molds upon the drying floor Without shaking, reverse the lock bar as shown by dotted line Fig. 4, push the cross parts of the levers D, toward the ends of the molds as shown Fig. 3, take hold of the handle of the molds and deliver the bricks, put your mold upon the drying floor at the rear end ot the bricks, reverse the lever D as shoivn Fig. 2, and secure it by the lock bar O as shown partially Fig. at, and the mold is ready to be sanded and illed.
I make no claim to the construction of the molds, but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is Operating the bottoms of the molds by means of the lever D, rod F, Wedges J, J O, cogs I, I", slide K, and lock bar O, in the manner and for the purpose specified.
J. F. SOHUFFENECKER.
