COMBINATION OF A CASE WITH A HAS? FOR BG Filed Jan. 28, 1952 2 sheets-'sheet 2 l-n venar Gewjes 'Lygmunf Werner United States Patent() CMBINATION OF A CASE WITH A HASP FOR BAG Georges Zygmunt Werber, Parisi, France Application January 28, 1952, Serial No. 268,567
Claims priority, application France December 7, 1951 z claims. (c1. 132-83) This invention relates to the combination of a case with a hasp for bag, particularly ladys bag.
The case may be formed with any desired number and type of compartments designed to act as powder-, compact-, cigarette-case, etc. and is fixed by means of soldering, screwing, riveting, or otherwise to the inside of the frame that constitutes one of the arms of the hasp.
According to one embodiment of the invention the edge portion of the case may be so formed as to constitute the frame of one of the hinged pair of arms of the hasp.
A tilting mirror is xed to a lid hingedly mounted on one side of the case, this lid being adapted to be shut down on the case in View of partially or totally closing it.
According to a modiiied embodiment of this invention the mirror may be hingedly mounted on one side `of the case.
According to another embodiment the case and its associated mirror-carrying lid may be fulcrumed on the hasp hinge pins.
Of course, the hasp according to the invention is fitted with the usual trimming of leather, pelt, cloth or other desired material constituting the bag, attach, briefor like case, regardless of the manner in which the invention is embodied in the practice.
The combined hasp according to the invention is advantageous in that when the hasp is opened the interior of the bag becomes Wholly accessible. Access to the inside of the case proper may only be gained by releasing the mirror-carrying lid thereof.
Finally, the mirror is movable and yet protected when the lid is closed.
The attached drawings forming part of this specification illustrate diagrammatically by way of example a few embodiments of the invention. In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a lirst embodiment showing an open hasp fitted with a case the mirrorcarrying lid of which is open.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. l but with the mirrorcarrying lid closed.
Fig. 3 shows the same assembly as that illustrated in Figs. l and 2 in its closed condition, the associated bag being shown in dot-and-dash lines.
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional View at a greater scale showing the hasp and case assembly of Figs. 1-3.
Fig. 5 is a sectional View according to the line a-a of Fig. 4.
Figs. 6, 7 and 8 are perspective views of modhied embodiments of the hasp and case assembly according to the invention.
Fig. 9 is a detail perspective and sectional view at a greater scale showing a case the edge portion of which constitutes the frame of one arm of the hasp.
Referring now to the drawings and particularly to the iirst embodiment, the hasp consists of two arms or frames 1 and 2 hingedly connected at 3, and 4 is a conventional 2,761,458 Patentedsept. 4, 1956 ice snap fastener. Bag means B are connected to the outside of the frames 1, 2 in any convenient manner, for instance, by pasting.
The case 5 is secured through any suitable means such as soft-welding, screwing, riveting, etc. to the inside of the arm 2. Preferably, the case 5 is divided into a plurality-of compartments constituting a powdercase 6, a cigarette-case 7, a recess for a stick of rouge 8 and another for a comb 9. Of course, this arrangement is merely given as an illustrative example since the relative positions and proportions of the compartments as Well as the nature of their lcontents may be varied to suit any desired purpose or use.
A lid 10 is hingedly connected to one of the edge portions `of the case as shown. It carries on its inner side a mirror 11 and may be shut down and held in its closed position on the case by means of a suitable snapor other fastener 12.
According to another embodiment (see Fig. 9) the case instead of being secured to the inside of the arm 2 of the hasp acts as a substitute therefor. For this purpose the edge portion 13 of the case is bent in the manner illustrated at 14 so as to form the frame of one Iof the arms of the hasp, the other arm being hingedly connected with the case and the latter being also formed in this example with a mirror-carrying lid which may be identical with or differ from the yone described hereinabove.
According to a modified embodiment shown in Fig. 6 the mirror-carrying lid 15 extends over one portion only of the case 16.
In another variant (Fig. 7) the mirror 17 is pivotally mounted at 18 in a frame structure 19 fulcrumed at 2G to the edge portion of the case 21.
In a further embodiment of the invention the case 21 fitted with its mirror-carrying lid 22 is trunnioned at 23 between the hinge pins 24 of the pair of arms 25, 26 of the hasp structure.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is:
l. A handbag device, comprising, in combination, a combined frame and case unit having a front face and a rear face and composed of a first frame member and a case mounted within said rst frame member, said case being rigidly secured at its periphery to said first frame member; a second frame member having a front face and a rear face, said second frame member being hingedly connected to said rst frame member for turning about a first axis along an edge portion of said combined frame and case unit, the front faces of said combined frame and case unit and said second frame member arranged mutually facing each other; mirror support means holding a mirror facing said case, said mirror support means being arranged within said second frame member and hingedly connected to said combined frame and case unit for turning about a second axis parallel to said first axis, said mirror support means and said second frame member being independently movable about their respective axes to closed positions toward said combined frame and case unit, and to `open positions away from said combined frame and case unit; and bag means attached to and enclosing the rear faces of said combined frame and case unit and said second frame member so as to form a bag portion, whereby when said second frame member and said mirror support means are moved into said open positions thereof, said case and said mirror are immediately accessible, and when said mirror support means is moved to closed position the interior of said bag portion becomes accessible.
2. A handbag device, comprising, in combination, a combined frame and case unit having a front face and a rear face and composed of a rst frame member and a case mounted within said first frame member, said case being rigidly secured at its periphery to said rst frame member; a second frame member having a front face and a rear face, said second frame member being hingedly connected to said first frame member for turning about a irst axis along an edge portion of said combined frame and case unit, the front faces of said combinedV frame and case unit and said second frame member arranged mutually facing each other; mirror support means holding a mirror facing said case, said mirror support means being arranged Within said second frame member and hingedly connected to said combined frame and case unit for turning .about a second axis parallel to said rst axis, said mirror supportrmeans and said second frame member being independently movable about their respective axes to closed positions toward said combined frame and case unit, and to open positions away from said combined frame and case unit; fastening means on said combined frame and case unit for engaging said mirror support means for retaining the same in closed position over said case; and bag means attached to and enclosing tbe rear faces of said combined frame and case unit and said second frame member so as to form a bag portion, whereby when said second frame member and said mirror support means are moved into said open positions thereof, said case and said mirror are immediately accessible, and when said mirror support means is moved to ciosed position the interior of said bag portion becomes accessible.
