SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,993, dated April 17, 1883.
Application filed February 10 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WALTER OAsWELL, of Napoleon, in the county of La Fayette and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Vehicle Wheel-Hubs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention consists of a cast wheel-hub of novel construction, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is acentral transverse section, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the wheel-hub on line at 00, Fig. 1.
The hub A is to be cast in a single piece, with recesses B extending from the periphery of the central part of the same to the box 0. These recesses are formed by the wed ge-shaped 2o cross-pieces D, which form beveled shoulders at their inner ends, against which the spokes E will rest when driven into position. The Spokes are also formed with shoulders F,Which are to be forced beyond the shoulders of the pieces D, so that they will be held by a dovetail joint. The ends of the spokes are to rest incontact with the box (3, as shown.
Instead of making the parts D wedge-shaped, they may be rectangular.
What I claim is-- The wheel-hub cast in one piece, and having the recesses B, formed by cross-pieces D, in combination with the spokes E, having shoulders F, adapted to engage with shoulders at the inner ends of said cross-pieces, substan- 35 tially as shown and described.
