July 17, 1956 R. E. COOK NURSING BOTTLE HOLDERS Filed Oct. 16, 1952 F0352? E. C'ooK,

ATTORNEY.
United States Patent NURSING BOTTLE HOLDERS Robert E. Cook, Richmond, Ind.
Application October 16, 1952, Serial No. 315,115
1 Claim. (Cl. 248-102) The present invention relates to nursing bottle holders and more particularly to holders adapted to be removably secured to baby cribs.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a nursing bottle holder which is economical to manufacture and which is simple of construction.
A second object of the invention is the provision of a nursing bottle holder which is composed of a minimum number of parts and which may be easily cleaned and sterilized.
A third object is the provision of a nursing bottle holder which is capable of a pendulum motion providing means whereby, should the nipple of the nursing bottle be dislodged from the babys mouth, the holder will freely swing to its original nursing position, but with lateral movement of the holder being restricted.
Further objects and particular advantages of the invention will become more apparent in the course of the following description, with reference being made to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device in assembled condition and with a nursing bottle being shown therein in broken lines.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the device as shown in Figure 1, and with the View being taken as from line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail elevation of the hanger member of the device.
Figure 4 is a detail vertical section through the hanger member taken on line 44 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a detail side elevation of the bottle holding member of the device.
Figure 6 is a detail vertical section through the bottle holding member, taken on line 66 of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a detail view at one end of the suspending bar member, and showing the means of removably securing the same to a rail member of a baby crib.
Like characters of reference denote like parts throughout the several views.
In order that the construction, the advantages, and the novel features of the invention may be more readily understood and appreciated, I will now take up a detailed description thereof in which the same Will be more fully set forth.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, 1 designates an upper rail of a baby crib, there being one of said rails located at each side of the conventional crib construction. 2 designates a hanging bar which is of such length to extend substantially across the width of the crib, and which is suspended from the crib rail members by means of cords 3.
A hanger member 4 is provided for carrying the bottle holder 5. The upper portion of hanger member 4 is provided with a pair of spaced-apart hook members 6 which are adapted to be hooked or snapped over the hanging bar 2, as indicated in Figures 1 and 2. The lower end of hanger member 4 is provided with a pair of spaced-apart yoke members 7, with each of the yoke members being 2,755,051 Patented July 17, 1956 provided with an inwardly-extending stud member 8, the purpose of which will be hereinafter set forth. The main body portion of hanger member 4 extends between the yoke members, as indicated in Figures 2, 3 and 4. A depending rim-engaging lug 9 is formed on the main body portion of the hanger and with a channel 10 being formed across the lower end of lug 9 for engagement with the upper rim portion of holder member 5.
The holder member is hollow and of frusto-conical shape and has a pair of apertures 11 located substantially midway between the upper and lower ends and positioned diametrically across the holder member, with the apertures 11 providing for engagement of studs 8 with the holder.
Letters A denote a nursing bottle (shown in Figures 1 and 2 by broken lines) while letters B denote the nursing nipple (also shown in Figures 1 and 2 by broken lines).
In the use of the device, a cord 3 is secured around each of the side rails of the baby crib with the bar 2 being of such a height to permit a baby lying in the crib to nurse from the bottle. Hook members 6 are then snapped over the bar 2, and the holder member 5 is positioned between yoke members 7 with the upper rim of the holder member being engaged in channel It) of engaging lug 9. The holder is then swung into such position to permit stud members 8 to enter the respective apertures 11 of the holder member. The bottle A, having the nipple B fitted thereon, is then positioned in the bottle holder from the upper end thereof, as indicated in Figures 1. and 2. The bottle A seats itself in the holder due to the tapered shape of the holder. The nipple B should be in position for nursing. The vertical position of the device can be adjusted by means of cords 3.
It will be noted from the above and by reference to the drawings that the device may swing like a pendulum but with lateral motion being practically nil. The device, being free to swing as a pendulum, provides means automatically bringing the same back to nursing position should the nipple be dislodged by the baby.
The device, when not in use for nursing, may be removed from the crib or, if desired, only the hanger and the holder may be removed either individually or together and leaving the bar 2 in its place and providing a hanging bar for toys and the like for amusement of the baby.
The different members of the device may be made of suitable materials such as plastics or certain types of metals.
I desire that it be understood that I am not to be limited to the construction and the specific arrangement of the parts herein shown and described, but that minor changes may be made therein, insofar as the changes may fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having now shown and described the invention, what I claim, is:
In a nursing bottle holder, a holder member of hollow frusto-conical shape, the lower end thereof being the smaller, a hanger member having the lower end thereof provided with a yoke, the yoke having a pair of opposed inwardly-directed studs formed thereon and adapted to engage a pair of oppositely-disposed apertures formed through the wall of the holder member, a depending lug formed in the upper portion of the yoke, a rim-engaging slot formed therethrough and adapted to engage the upper edge of the holder member, and a pair of hooks formed on the upper portion of the hanger member, said hooks providing means removably suspending the hanger on a bar member.
