UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAURICE J. JAFFE, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, AND JOSEPH GHANKIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HOLDER FOR NURSING BOTTLES OR OTHER VESSELS.
Application filed October 21, 1926. Serial No. 143,108.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders for nursing bottles or other vessels or utensils and has for Its principal object to provide means by which a nursing bottle may be attached to a perambulator, carriage, bed or the like, to be securely and adjustably held in position.
Another object is to provide means whereby the nursing bottle will tend to assume and retain an upright position preventing the spilling or dripping out of the contents. 7
A still furtherobject is to provide a construction which will be simple, durable and elfcctive and which can be manufactured at a small cost.
With these objects in view our invention consists in-the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and defined 1. in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing which forms part of this specification and in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts 1 Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a baby carriage having our device attached to 1t and in position of use;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of our device;
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on line 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 1 a longitudinal section on line H of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 a front end view of the device applied to a nursing bottle shown in cross section.
The device comprises a supporting arm 10 preferably of flexible material, such as, wire or the like. The ends of this arm are bent upon themselves to form hooks 10 of which only one is shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The hook at the rear end of the arm is adapted to have permanently attached to it a saddle shaped resilient member 11, preferably made of coiled wire substantially as shown in Fig. 2, said member being adapted to serve for the removable attachment of said supporting arm 10 to a stationary support, such as the front wall of a baby carriage C (Fig. 1) or the like.
To the book of the front end of the arm is permanently attached a bifurcated member 12, also made of wire and serving to carry the holder proper of the nursing bottle B to be hereinafter more fully described.
The attachment of the saddle l1 and member 12 to the hooks may be effected by providing each with a cross piece 13 which is adapted to bepaseed under the respective hooked portion 10 and tightening the inner ends thereof to the body of the arm by wire or the like as at 10, whereby the saddle 11 and bifurcated member 12 become rigidly fixed to the supporting arm. The latter as well as the saddle l1 and member 12 may all be covered by rubber tubings 14, 15, 16, to prevent any injury to the user and to the furniture to. which the-device is to be attached. v I
The free ends of the bifurcated member are bent toward one another .to form pintles or pivots 12. T he holder proper consists of an annular resilient member or frame 17 advantageously made of wire looped and bent in zigzag manner in form of lattice work (Fig. 2). This frame or member 17 is pro vided at one of its peripheral edges with two oppositely located sockets 17 for the engagements of said pintles or pivots 12 These sockets are located at the ends of a line drawn between'two opposite points of the periphery but shorter than the diameter of said member 17 so that said sockets will be above the center of gravity of said member and when the latter is suspended from said bifurcated member 12 it will have the tendency to swing into position of equilibrium as a result of whichwhen said member is mounted about centrally around the nursing bottle, the latter whether filled or empty will tend to tilt into upright position preventing the discharge of the contents of said bottle. j
The arm 10 being flexible can be bent into any desired position. according to the panticular position of the user. The frame or member 17 being expansible and resilient can be mounted around bottles of different sizes and will frictionally engage said bottle.
The supporting arm having been suitably adjusted and the nursing bottle engaged in the member 17, the bottle is tilted into the position of use by the infant. When the infant releases thenipple, the bottle will automatically tilt toward upright position with the nipple directedupwardly so that the dripping of the contents thereof will be prevented.
It is of course understood that the construction of our device may be modified to hold vessels or utensils other than nursing bottles without departing from the principle of our invention. lVe therefore do not wish to restrict ourselves to the details, shown and described.
lVhat We claim is:-
1. A holder tor a nursing bottle or the like comprising a. bendable arm having at one end a bifurcated member and atits opposite end a resilient member frietionally engaging a stationary support, and a resilient annular member serving to trietirmally engage said bottle, said resilient annular member being pivotally supported on said hifnrcated member above its center of gravity, so that said bottle will tend to tilt into upright position preventing the dripping of the contents thereof.
2. A holder for a nursing bottle or the like comprising a flexible arm having a bifurcated portion at one end and at its opposite end resilient means for its removable at.- tachment to a stationary support, a lattice shaped annular resilient member serving to trictionally engage said bottle, said resilient member being pivotally supported on said bifurcated member above its center of gravity so that when released said bottle will tend to tilt into upright position preventing the dripping of the contents thereof.
3. A holder for a nun-ing bottle or the like comprising a flexible arm a rigid bifurcated member at one end of said arm, a resilient coiled member at the opposite end of said arm serving for the removable at:- tachment thereof to a stationary support, and a lattice shaped annular resilient memher serving to frictionally engage said hottle and having sockets on its periphery located above its center of gravity, said sockets being adapted to pivotally engage the free ends of said bifurcated member so that said bottle when released vvill tend to tilt into upright position preventing the dripping of the contents thereof.
4:. A holder for nursing bottles or the like comprising a bendable arm having means at one end for its attachment to a stationar v support and a resilient annular member serving to trictionally engage said bottle and pirotall supported on the other end of. said bendable arm above its centre of gravity so that said bottle will tend to tilt into upright position preventing the dripping of the contents thereof.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature.
MAURICE J. JAFFE.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature.
