H` N. CREED HOLDER FOR BOTTLES Filed sept. 25, 1942 2 Smets-sheet 2 Inventor wpa/wey Mmm Patented Feb. 1, 1944 UNI-TED STATES PATNT OFFICE HOLDER FOR BOTTLES y Hickman Newton Creed, Lafayette, La. Application September 25, 1942, Serial No. 459,704 I 3k Claims. (Cl. 248-107) My invention relates to improvements in bottle holders for nursing bottles, the principal object in view being to provide a simply constructed, practical and eicient device ofthis character for holding and supporting nursing bottles at selected angles during nursing so as to obviate loss of the bottle by babies with resulting well known disadvantages.
Other and subordinate objects are also comprehended by my invention, all of which, together with the precise nature of my improvements, will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claims are read with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification.
In said drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, with parts in section, illustrating my improved bottle holder in its preferred embodiment,
Figure 2 is a view in top plan,
Figure 3 is a view in front elevation,
Figure 4 is a view in transverse section taken on the line 4 4 of Figure 1 and drawn to an enlarged scale,
Figure 5 is a fragmentary View in front elevation illustrating a modified form of clamp,
Figure 6 is a view in rear elevation illustrating a further modification of the invention,
Figure 'i' is a fragmentary view in side elevation illustrating another modification of the invention, and
Figure 8 is a View in side elevation illustrating still another modification of the invention.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, and first to Figures l to 4 thereof, my improved bottle holder, in its preferred embodiment, comprises as its basic element a one-piece, skeleton, resilient wire frame of substantially rectangular form including front and rear pairs of corner uprights l. 2, a pair of lower side sections 3 and right angled extensions 4 of the sections 3 forming together with the uprights I, 2 feet 5 on said uprights elevating the sections 3 above said feet.
The front pair of uprights I is bridged at the uppfer ends thereof by a U-shaped clamping yoke 6 depending between the uprights I and provided with opposed toothed sides 1.
The pair of uprights 2 is bridged at the upper ends of said uprights by a forwardly bowed member 8.
Sides are provided for the described frame in the form of a pair of flexible walls 9, preferably of fabric, attached to the uprights I, 2, on opposite sides of the frame by rolling around said uprights and stitching, as at I0. Each wall 9 includes a central elastic band II arranged in up# right position lengthWise.` The walls '9 are disposed above the sections 3 for a suitable distance. The member 8 is arranged at a higher level than the top of the clamping yoke E. The said yoke S is of the requisite width to snugly accommodate the neck i2 lof a nursing bottle I3 between the sides thereof.
A tray I'l of flexible material such as cloth and including a suitable frame -Ili' is suspended from the sections 3 by suitable attaching clips I5.
In the use of the described embodiment of the invention, the neck I2 of the nursing bottle I3 is thrust down into the clamping yoke 6 to be yieldingly gripped by the toothed sides 1 of said yoke and the bottle is then manipulated rearwardly to press the bottom I6 thereof against the member B with the bottle arranged at the proper angle for nursing. The concavity of the bottom I6 of the usual nursing bottle prevents the bottom end thereof from slipping downwardly relative to the member 8. The walls 9 being ilexible, they flex outwardly so that they will not interfere with the hand in mounting the bottle in the manner described. The tray I4 may be loaded with any suitable medium such as rice or other grain to lend stability to the holder. The clamping yoke 6, as will be manifest, may be made of different widths for different types of nursing bottles and the described frame of different lengths for longer or shorter bottles.
As shown in Figure 5, the described clamping yoke may be covered with rubber tubing I1 to further facilitate gripping the neck of a bottle.
As shown in Figure 6, the rear pair of uprights I8 may be connected together adjacent their lower ends by a cross rod I9 and a safety pin 20 secured to said rod by a link 2| for anchoring the holder to a pillow or mattress or other support.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 7, rigid side walls, as at 22, of stiff cardboard, wood, metal or the like, may be provided in lieu of the walls 9. The rear pair of uprights for the frame may be cut down, as at 22' and secured to the appropriate wall as by clips 23 permitting detachment of the walls 22 from said frame. In lieu of the member 8 of the preferred embodiment of the invention, an L-shaped clamping member 8 may be provided for engaging the bottom of the bottle I3 and slidably mounted, as represented at 24, on the walls 22 for movement toward and from the front end of the frame, or holder. Springs, as at 25, may be suitably attached to the walls 22 and clamping member l 8 to tension said member against the bottoml of the bottle.
According to the modication of the invention shown in Figure 8, a, wall 26, similar to Walls 22, may be provided in the longitudinal center thereof with a pair of front and rear hook members 21, 28 for attachment to the front and rear uprights of the described frame. The hook member 21 may be attached to the wall 26, as at 29 and 30, to x the same to said wall, Whereas, the hook member 28 may be slidably attached to said Wall 26 in guides 30' and tensioned by a suitably arranged spring 3l so that said member may be hooked against the tension of the spring 3|` around the appropriate upright of the frame.
The foregoing will, it is believed, suce to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation.
What I claim is:
1. A holder for a nursing bottle comprising a one-piece skeleton frame of resilient rod-like material including front and rear end pairs of corner uprights. a pair of lower horizontal side sections between the corner uprights at opposite sides of. the frame terminating in right angled extensions forming together with the lower ends of said uprights corner feet elevating the side sections, a tray suspended from said side sections for containing ballast to lend stability to the frame, and a pair of bridging members extending between the upper ends of said pairs of uprights,
respectively, for holding opposite ends of a bottle in inclined position.
2. A holder for a nursing bottle comprising a one-piece skeleton frame of resilient rod-like material including' front and rear end pairs of corner uprights, a U-shaped clamping yoke forming a depending bridging extension of the front pair of uprights and for clamping the neck of the bottle therein while said bottle is inclined upwardly and rearwardly of said frame, a forwardly bowed bridging extension of the rear pair of uprights for frictionally engaging the bottom end of the bottle and holding said end elevated, and side panels for said frame of exible material with elastic inserts for receiving the body of the bottle therebetween to assist in holding the bottle elevated.
3.- A holder for a nursing bottle comprising a one-piece skeleton frame of rod-like material including front and rear end pairs of corner legs, a U-shaped clamping yoke forming a bridging depending extension of said front pair of uprights and for gripping the neck of a reclining bottle therebetween with the bottom end of said bottle in the rear of said front legs, side panels detachably attached at opposite sides of said frame to said legs, and a clamp slidably mounted on said panels and spring tensioned to bear against said bottom end of the bottle.
