2 Claims. (Cl. 155-11) This invention relates to chairs and more particularly to chairs provided with an adjustable seat whereby the chair may be rendered suitable for use by small children of various ages.
An object of this invention is to provide a chair for small children having means for adjusting the height of the seat, and which is so constructed that it can be mounted on the back of a chair, an automobile seat, or be suspended from a swing.
A further object of the invention is to provide a chair of the type set forth above that can be manufactured at low cost from tubular stock.
The above and other objects of the invention will be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art to which the invention pertains from the following description and drawings:

Fig. 4 is a view in section taken on line IV-IV of Fig. 1.
In the drawings a chair 1 is illustrated that comprises a base 2, uprights 3 and 4 at the sides of the base, and a back 5.
As shown, the base and uprights at the sides of the base and the frame of the back 5 are formed from a continuous piece of tubular stock. The base of the chair is of substantially U-shape with the bight or crossbar 6 of the U extending across the front thereof. The sides 7 and 8 of the U extend rearwardly as shown. The tubular stock is so formed that the sides 3 and 4 comprise a plurality of return bends having supporting bar portions 9 which compose the upright 3, and corresponding bar portions 10 which are parts of the return bends of the upright 4. The bar portions 9 and 10 of the uprights 3 and 4 are substantially parallel to the base and to each other. The spacing between the respective bars of the upright portions 3 and 4 is such as to accommodate a removable seat 12. The seat 12 may be raised or lowered, depending on which pair of bars 8 and 9 the seat is placed.
The uppermost bars 9 and 10 extend rearwardly and upwardly to form uprights 13 and 14, which constitute side members for the back of the chair. The uprights 13 and 14 are connected by a cross member 15 which may be padded and upholstered as shown to provide a back rest.
In order that the chair 1 may be mounted on the back of a grown-ups chair, for example a table chair, the back of the chair is provided with upwardly extending inverted hook members 17 and 18. The members 17 and 18 as shown are secured to the back of the cross member 15 by means of clamps or clips 19 of any suitable form. When the chair is to be supported from the back of an automobile seat as in Fig. 2, inverted hooks 17' (only one of which is shown) having a wider bite than the bite of hooks 17 and 18, may be substituted for the latter.
The uprights 13 and 14 may also be provided with clips 20 having eyes therein into which the hooks 21 of a belt 22 may be inserted to secure a child in the seat where such safety precautions require it. The chair may be also suspended from a sling 23 of a swing by attaching the elements of the sling to the members 20 and to the forward part of the upper bar members 9 and 10.
The bars 9 and 10 may also support a board or table member 25 which serves as a tray for food.
Having thus described the invention, it will be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art to which it pertains that various changes and modifications may be made in the illustrated embodiment without departing from either the spirit or the scope of the invention.
Therefore what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A chair comprising a base, uprights at the sides of the base and back side members, the uprights and back side members comprising continuous tubular members so formed that the base is of substantially U-shape with the bight of the U at the front of the chair, the uprights being continuations of the rear ends of the sides of the U and so formed as to provide a plurality of return bends, the last turns of which bends extend upwardly to form side members of the back of the chair, said upwardly extending side members being connected by a back rest member, and a return bend of one of said uprights together with a return bend of the other located at the same level being adapted to support a seat thereon.
2. A chair according to claim 1 in which the chair back is provided with upwardly extending inverted hooks for suspending the chair from a supporting member such as a larger chair or the like.
