It? is'" the object of the present invention to provide a novel and simplified power opera-ted fountain b'rush, which'is light, easy to handle and consists of a minimum number of= parts. P
*It is the further object of the present invention to provide a power fountain brushihaving a unitary casting, together with a tubular removablehandle to facilitate venturi device for injecting a cleaning solvent into the fluid stream through the fountain brush.
It will be understood that the above drawing illustrates merely a preferred embodiment of the invention, and that other embodiments are contemplated within the scope of the claims hereafter set forth.
Referring to the drawing, the present power operated fountain brush comprises a unitary casting, which includes the upright annular housing 11, having an open face and being exteriorly threaded adjacent said open face as at 12. The housing includes the upright wall 13, which terminates at its lower end in the horizontally and rearwardly extending platform 17, having a flat motor mounting surface 18; said platform having an upwardly projecting pedestal 19 spaced from housing wall 13.
The formed fluid delivery conduit 14 with passage 15 is integral with said platform and housing with its lower depending end angularly inclined as at 42 and interiorly threaded at 43 to receive the threaded upper end 45 of hollow handle 44.
Conduit 14 at its upper end and passage 15 communicates with the fluid chamber 16 within housing 11 for directing fluid under pressure towards the open face of said housing.
Pedestal 19 is transversely apertured adjacent its upper end and snugly receives bushing 20 through which rotatably extends shaft 21, the other end of said shaft being- I supported and journaled through bushing 22 within the centrally apertured collar 23 projecting from said housing.
Shaft 21 is threaded at 24 at its outer end and receives thereover the disc shaped brush head 25, which is secured thereto by the nut 26, as Well as by the locking key 27, as illustrated in Fig. 2. Shaft 21 has the shoulder 28 thereon within housing 11, which serves to position brush head within said housing.
Nut 29 is threaded upon the opposite end of shaft 1 United States Patent O 2,744,271 Patented May 8, 1956 21 and cooperates with bushing'20 for retaining said shaft in the position shown in Fig. 2.
The bristles 30 are securedto brush head25and project outwardly through the open face of housing. 11, there being a suitable retaining disc31 threaded as at' 32 over. the open end of said housing and having an annular inwardly directed flange which overlies the periphery of brush head 25, there being a suitable gasket 31' interposed between the annular open end of said housing and the interior surface of disc 31 Brush head 25 has a plurality of transverse fluid apera tures 33 formed therethrough whereby fluid under pressure can pass through said brush head and through the bristles 30.
There are also provided an additional set of circularly arranged angularly.inclined fluid passages 34-.
The present power operated fountain brush includes an electric motor 35, which is positioned uponand secured to the top surface 18 of the cast platform 17, as by the fasteners 35'. The rotative shaft 36 from said motor has secured thereon at 38, the pulley 37, which is interconnected by belt 41 with a second pulley 39 of increased diameter secured over brush shaft 21 as at 40.
Hollow brush handle 44 with water passage 46 may be ofone piece or may consist of several extensions depending upon the desired use of the present brush.
it is contemplated that a number of handle sections might be employed for washing or cleaning remote places. The handle formation includes an elongated conduit 47 with an integral bore 48, which is integral with the hollow handle 44 and extends throughout its length for receiving and enclosing the electrical wire leads 49, which are adapted for connection to an electrical power source at one end and with the other end of said wire leads extending from wire conduit 47-48 up through the transverse passage 50 formed in platform 17 for connection with motor 35 as indicated in Fig. 2.
The flexible hose 51 has an interiorly threaded fitting 52, at one end and a suitable washer 53, and is adapted for threaded engagement with the lower threaded end 54 of hollow Water supply handle 54, the opposite end of hose 51 being adapted for connection to a suitable water supply pipe, such as pipe 56 shown in Fig. 5, for illustration.
Fig. 5 shows a slight adaptation for the present fountain brush, which includes a mechanism for supplying a cleaning solvent, as and when desired. For this purpose, there is provided a venturi housing 55 into which is directed fluid supply pipe 56, which terminates in the jet 57 in the interior chamber 62 of said fitting. The lower end of hose 51 isalso connected with said fitting and in comthe desired amount of solvent will be introduced into the be had to the claims which follow for determining the scope there. i
I claim: 1
1. A power brush comprising a casting including when in position for use on a walla hollow upright annular housing with an open face, a horizontally disposed platform rearwardly thereof, a formed fluid delivery conduit depending at one end downwardly from said platform with its other endcommunicating with the interior of said housing, and an upright pedestal on said plat-form transversely apertured at its upper end and s 1 i" .1"; said housing; a hollow straight handle communicatively joined at one end to said conduit extending angularly downward from said platform and at its other end adapted for connection to a pressure fluid source, a horizontally arranged rotatable shaft journaled through said housing and the aperture in said pedestal, a circular apertured brush head loosely mounted within said housing and secured to said shaft, and occupying the greater portion of the interior of said housing, a series of bristles on said head projecting from said housing, a motor secured upon said platform, and pulley means interconnecting said motor and shaft.
2. The power brush of claim 1, and a retaining cap threaded onto the end of said housing and having an inwardly directed annular flange adjacent overlying the periphery of said brush head.
3. A power brush comprising a casting including when in position for use on a wall a hollow upright annular housing with an open face, a horizontally disposed platform rearwardly thereof, a formed fluid delivery conduit depending at one enddownwardly from said platform with its other end communicating with the interior of said housing, an upright pedestal on said platform transversely apertured at its upper end and spaced from said housing, a hollow straight handle communicatively joined at one end to said conduit extending angularly downward from said platform and at its other end adapted for connection to a pressure fluid source, a horizontally arranged rotatable shaft journaled through said housing and the aperture in said pedestal, a circular apertured .brush head loosely mounted within said housing and secured to said shaft and occupying the greater portion of the interior of said housing, a series of bristles on said head projecting from said housing, and a motor secured upon said platform in driving relation with said shaft.
