Description

April 10, 1956 T. DERBY ET AL FASTENER STRIP Filed March 22, 1954 QZTZ VIII/11111110111114 MA /6,7411 Z p gg JNVENTORS ATTOR/Vf) United tates Patent signors to California Industrial Products Co., South Gate, Calif., a partnership Application March 22 1954, Serial No. 417,892
2 Claims. (Cl. 1--56) This invention relates to a new article of manufacture, it being an object of the invention to provide a strip comprising a series of separably connected fastener elements so that the same will facilitate the application of such fastener elements. 7
Another object of the invention is to provide means keeping a series of fastener elements in orderly array so they may be successively fed to points of application.
The invention also has for its objects to provide such means that are positive in operation, convenient in use, easily installed in 'a working position and easily disconnected therefrom, economical of manufacture, relatively simple, and of general superiority and serviceability.
The invention also comprises novel details of construction and novel combinations and arrangements of parts, which will more fully appear in the course of the following description. However, the drawing merely shows and the following description merely describes, one embodiment of the present invention, which is given by way of illustration or example only.
In the drawing, like reference characters designate similar parts in the several views.
Fig. l is a plan view of a fastener strip according to the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational View thereof.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view as taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.
The drawing shows a series of similar and usually metallic fastener elements 5 arranged in uniformly spaced and oriented relation and connected to and by strip or tape means 6 to provide a flexible article of manufacture capable of being rolled up or laid zig zag folds, as desired.
The fasteners,'per se, may vary in form and design provided the same have an outer surface capable of sticking to adhesive. The fasteners that are shown each comprises a plate 7 extending from one side of which is a stud 8 and from the opposite side, clinching prongs 9. The plate 7 affords the surface to which the tape means 6 is adhered.
The tape means 6 is shown as two similar tapes or iatented Apr. 10, 1956 bands 10 that are provided with adhesive 11, such as rubber cement or the like, on one face. These tapes are preferably applied to the stud side of plates 7 so that the same may be stripped away after the prongs 9 are clinched over the article on which the fasteners are mounted.
The tapes 10 may comprise paper or other cellulosic or plastic flexible material and the same may be woven or laid in strands, as desired.
While two relatively narrow tapes have been shown, the same being applied to opposite edges of plates 7 of the fastener elements, one wider tape may be used.
While the foregoing has illustrated and described what is now contemplated to be the best mode of carrying out the invention, the construction is, of course, subject to modification without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. It is, therefore, not desired to restrict the invention to the particular form of construction illustrated and described, but to cover all modifications that may fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed v and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A fastener strip comprising two transversely spaced longitudinal flexible tapes, the faces of said tapes being coplanar, a series of similar fastener elements each formed to have a flat plate provided with a fastener stud protrudingfrom one side and element-mounting prongs protruding from the opposite side of said plate, said tapes being adhesively connected to the sides of the plates from which the fastener studs protrude, whereby both tapes are peelablein the same direction away from said plates when the fastener elements are mounted by means of the prongs thereof.
2. A fastener strip comprising two transversely spaced longitudinal flexible tapes, the faces of said tapes being coplanar, a series of similar fastener elements each formed to have a fiat plate provided with a fastener stud protruding from one side and element-mounting prongs protruding from the opposite side of said plate, peelable adhesive on the faces of the tapes and applied to the element backs on the sides thereof from which the fastener studs protrude, whereby both tapes are adapted to be stripped in the same direction away from the fasteners successively after the prongs of the latter are clinched over to successively mount the fastener elements.
