Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT PRICE, OF NEIN YORK, N. Y.
COMBINATION OF MOP AND SCRUBBER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 27,383, dated March 6, 1860.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT PRicrnof the city of New York and county of New York, in the State of New York,` have invented a new and Improved Method of Constructing a Mop and Scrubber; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which-` Figure l is aside View and Figs. 2 and 3 are different constructions of a face View.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing a mop and scrubber in such a manner so as to attach the mop and brush to the saine handle and detach either at pleasure, to enable the mop to be wrung without touching it with the hands.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will describe its construction and operation.
I construct the handle A in Figs. l, 2, and 3, as represented at Fig. 2 with an opening through its center the entire length of handle A, so as to enable the wringing rod B (which can be made of wood or iron) to be slid freely through the handle A. To the lower end of the wringing rod B is attached the clamp C. To this clamp is fastened both ends of the mop cloth. Figs. 2 and 3 represent different modes of constructing the cloth frame D, Fig. 2 having a cross bar E resting upon spiral springs represented at F. Fig. 3 can be constructed of plain wood bent in a form similar t0 the illustration for the 'cloth frame D. Fig. 3 represents an eX- ternal view of the cloth-frame and handle also the wringing rod B. When it is desired to mop up the floor the cloth is passed around the cross-bar E and both ends secured in the clamp C. The wringing rod can then be slid upon the cross-bar E, which will allow the cloth to hang loose as desired. After it has been used and become saturated to wring it draw the rod B from the crossbar and when the cloth is stretched twist or revolve the rod B, which will wring the cloth dry without being touched by the hands. Fig. l represents a side view and the construction ofthe cap of brush H by which it is secured to the cross-bar E while being used. From the cap 0f brush at G projects an iron which passes through the cross-bar E and is intended to hold the brush secure while scrubbing. Fig. 4 represents an iron brace K intended to hold permanently to the handle the cloth frame.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent isi Constructing the handle A and cloth frame D in such a manner as above described so as to attach to said handle and frame a scrubbing brush and to the wringing rod a mop cloth for purposes specified or any other construction substantially the same or effecting the same facilities to accomplish the same ends.
