UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI E.
JOB F. PEAUOGK, OF NEW YORK, N Y.
TOILET-PAPER POCKET-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,594, dated March 6, 1883. Application filed October 11, 1880. Renewed November 7, 1882. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J01: FRANCIS PEACOCK, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Toilet-Paper Pocket-Case, ofwhich the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to that class of articles used in toilet rooms for supplying medicated or other paper for the water-closet; and the invention consists ot'a toilet-paper case composed of a. two-part case for holding the toiletpaper, a core hinged at one end to one part of the case, with the other half of the case hinged to the other end, and a covering of paper.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a section longitudinally of the case and spool, and also shows in dotted lines the parts when partially opened. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the parts when folded together in the case. Fig. 3is an exterior view of the parts when in condition to be used.
At A is represented a spool or core, upon which the paper is wound as a. band, as shown at B. Said core or spool is preferably of oval form in cross-section to give the paper covering the same form, so that either the edges or the sides may be used, as desired or most fitting to the parts to be used. Said core is hinged to one end of one hall of a case or shell, as at U, which may be formed of sheet metal or tin or brass,or of papier maeh or rubber-celluloid, or other convenientand suitable substances, and which is of oval form to correspond to the core and its covering of paper, as represented in the drawings, and in which form the core, with its paper covering, may be folded, and then inclosed by a cover, as at D, forming the other half of the case, and which is hinged to the other half of the shell or case, as represented in Fig. 1, when the parts are all folded together, as shown in the section, and in which condition it may be carried in the pocket as easily as any other toilet article; but when the paper is required to be used the cover D is first turned back, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1, and then the core, with its paper covering, is turned out at the other end, as shown in Fig. l, or until it is in the position shown in Fig.3, and then the cover D is turned over the part B, as shown at Fig. 3, and thereby the two parts of the shell or core serve as a handle to the paper-covered core, which may be used instead of the ordinary toiletpaper, and then said soiled portion may be removed by tearing he a line of gum laid upon the inner edge, or 6o that next to the hinged end, so that it will be held in a compact roll upon the core; or it may be held by a strong elastic band in the same end of the core, which will hold it firmly upon the core when used; or it may be wound upon a form corresponding to the shape of the core desired, and then it maybe slipped on over the core and fastened thereon by a touch of gum, or a band to compress it on the core, or in other convenient manner.
The surface of the core may be corrugated circumferentially, so that when the paper is wound tightly on it small corrugations will be formed in the paper, to serve as a rasping or roughened surface. The said core may be made of wood, and instead of being hinged itself to the end of the case, as shown, may have a hole through its center, as represented by the dotted lines at F, to tit over a metal core, as at G, one end cl" which is pivoted to the shell or case (J, and the other end, as at H,can rest in a bearing in the other end ot'the case, and thus be held firmly in the case or shell when the wrapper of the paper is not large enough to fill the cavity. The core may also be formed of pasteboard, and it may be ofother form from that shown in the drawings; but this form is preferred; and
I therefore claim 1. In combination with a two part case for holdin toilet-paper, a core hinged at one end to one part of the case, and a covering of paper, as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In combination with a two part case for holding toiletpaper, the core hinged at one end to one partot' the case, with the otherhalt' of the case hinged to the other end, as hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my. hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOB FRANCIS PEAOOCK. [n s] Witnesses:
