SATCHEL AND MUFF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,523, dated March 6, 1883.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUOINIUS HAVASY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combined Satchel and Muff, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved satchel which can also be used as a muff.
The invention consists in a satchel containinga longitudinal pocket forming openings in the ends of the satchel, into which pocket cloth, fur, or any suitable material, and has the outer appearance of a satchel, is provided with a longitudinal pocket, B, forming openings in the ends of the satchel, into which openings the hands can be passed. The pocket can be made of muslin, leather, or flannel, and can be lined with some soft or hairy material, or with wadding, ifdesired, butiu all cases must be made so that it can be folded together flat to occupy a minimum of space in the satchel.

suitable material, is adapted to be passed loosely into the openings in the pocket B in sucha manner that it can be easily withdrawn when desired.v The hairy surface should be to the inside, and the outer surface should be smooth, so that the muff can easily be passed -into or withdrawn from the pocket. The
satchel is provided with a handle, E, and with a suitable look. In summer the mud" O is withdrawn from the satchel, which can be used as anordinary satchel, as the pocket for receiving the muff is folded together and occupies very little space. In winter the muff is placed into the satchel, or some suitable lining in place of the muff is secured to the inner surface of the pocket.
I am aware that combined satchels and mufi's have been made heretofore; but in all cases they had the appearance of muffs and not of satchels, and they could be used as combined mods and satchels only, whereas my improved combined satchel and muff can, be used as such or as a satchel only.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a satchel, ofa pocket forming a longitudinal opening in the satchel, and ofa mud-adapted to be passed into the said pocket or removed therefrom, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
