It will be observed that as I prefer to construct the bag, the handle is made of several parts permanently secured together, namely the upper bar of celluloid or other suitable material secured across the upper edge of upper handle portion which is all moderately stiff material, such as leather, and the third part of the handle comprises the very flexible lower portion which is never exposed and which is preferably of silk. It is also to be noted that I preferably provide a handle in each of the slip pockets, that is, a handle at both sides of the bag. Consequently when the handles are withdrawn for carrying the bag thereby, it will be observed that said handles are on opposite sides of the pouch frame and consequently will prevent a sneak thief from gaining access to the pouch by opening the frame. Furthermore, the handles will pull out of the slip pockets a suflicient distance so that the users hand may enter through the cut-out portion of the handles and readily and securely grasp the same when the bag is to be carried in that manner.

Obviously detail changes and modifications may be made in the construction and use of my improved hand bag, and I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact construction shown or described except as set forth in the following claims when construed in the light of the prior art.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A hand bag comprising a body portion having a slip pocket, a handle secured at its lower end in said pocket, the upper portion of said handle being slidable at its upper portioninto and out of said slip pocket.

2. A hand bag having slip pockets on opposite sides thereof, handles at opposite sides of the bag having their lower ends secured in said slip pockets, the upper portions of said handles being slidable into said slip pockets.
