PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. MARSHALL, oF LoeANsFoRT, INDIANA, AssIerNoIt oF ONE.
IIALF To A. n. sHRoYFR, oF sAMFi PLACE.
DINNER-FAIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 272,387, dated February 13, 1883.
Application filed December 18, 1862., (No model.)
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. MARSHALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Logansport, in the county of Cass and State of Indiana, have invented a new and usefulDinner-Fail, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to dnner-pails; and it consists, in certain improvementsin the c0nstruction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved dinner-pail, the cover having been removed. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view, and Fig; 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line :v .fr in Fig. 2.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the gures. Y
A in the drawings represents the body of my improved dinner-pail, which consists of a rectangular or other suitably-shaped box, having a vertical partition, B. One of the compartments thus formed is divided by a horizontal partition, C, into two sub-compartments, D and E. In the large compartment, which is denoted by letter F, is iitted a box, G, having a hinged cover, and provided with hinged ears or bails H, by means 'of which it may be readily lifted out when required. I is a square can or vessel fitted in the 'upper sub-compartment, D, and having at one corner a neck or spout, J which may be provided with a screwtop. In the lower sub-compartment, E, is
placed a suitably-constructed lamp, L, adapted for burning alcohol, naphtha, or other fluid.' The sides ofthe compartment E are perforated, as at M, in order to supply sufficient draft to the flame. Access to the compartment E is gained through a door, N, hinged in the end of the box A, and having a glass front, 0, through which the flame of the lamp is visible, thus enabling the device to he used as a lanternwhen desired.
The box or receptacle A is provided with a detachable cover, P, having at one corner a spout, Q, through which the nozzle J of the can I projects, as shown. The spout Q, has a screw-cover, It, by removing which the nozzle J of the can Iis exposed.- By this construction access to the can I may be had without first removing the cover P of the-box A.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed, the operation and advantages of my invention Will be readily understood.
It forms a con' venient receptacle in which laboring men and others may carry their meals. By the lamp L 'the coffee or other contentsof the can I may easily be heated, after. which, by removing the can I, meat and other articles may be heated in the compartment D.
The construction of the device is simple, and it may be manufactured at a triliing expense.
. I claim as myinvention and desire to secure i WILLIAM P. MARSHALL.
