Description
PATB 'IBD JULY 23, 1907.
T BISCHOFP POULTRY DRINKING FOUNTAIN.
APPLIOATION FILED 8111913 28. 1906.
E1Ii-l THOMAS BISCHOFF, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
POULTRY DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1907.
Application filed September 28,1906. Serial No. 336,615.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS Brsonorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Poultry Drinking-Fountains; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain improvements in poultry drinking fountains.
It has for its object to provide a device of this nature which is simple of construction, cheap of manufacture, may be readily filled and easily cleaned and. which possesses other important advantages hereinafter described.
The invention consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts described in this specification and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention: Figure 1 is a side view of my invention, the position of the expansible front end partition being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a front view of the fountain. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal central vertical sectional View thereof, and Fig 4 is a horizontal sectional View on the line 90-95 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the fountain or tank which is triangular in transverse vertical section, and rests upon one side with one corner, peak or apex up. The shape of the fountain is advantageous in that it is not easily turned over owing to the fact that most of the weight is on the bottom, and the poultry will not roost on the sharp top edge or peak. The curb 2 is arranged in the plane of the front edge of the open end of the fountain as shown particularly in Fig. 3. The front end partition 3, which forms the rear wall of the drinking compartment, is corrugated and arranged on an incline from the apex of the open or front end of the tank inward as also illustrated in Fi". 3. The lateral edge portions 3 of said front end partition are bent outward and secured to the front edges of the fountain as shown in Fig. 4. This construction of corrugated front end partition with the edges formed as described permits it to expand so that it will not burst if the water freezes in the fountain.
The arrangement of the curb in the plane of the front edge of the fountain prevents the drinking opening or compartment from being fouled and said curb also serves as a means of grasping and carrying the fountain.
To fill the fountain, all that is necessary is to turn it up on the rear end and pour water into the open front. It can then be set in position for use without splashing or spilling any of the water.
I claim:
1. A drinking fountain, of the character described, comprising a tank triangular in transverse vertical section and adapted to normally rest upon one side with one apex up for the purpose specified.
2. A drinking fountain, of the character described, comprising tank triangular in transverse vertical section and adapted to normally rest upon one side with one apex up, said tank open at one end, a curb at said open end, and a partition inclined from the apex of the open end inward to a point below the upper edge of the curb.
3. A drinking fountain, of the character described, comprising a tank open at one end, a curb at said open end, and an expansible partition inclined from the top of said openend inward to a point below the upper edge of the curb.
4. A drinking fountain, of the character described, comprising a tank open at one end, a curb at said open end, and a corrugated partition inclined from the top of said open end inward to a point below the upper edge of the curb.
5. A drinking fountain, of the character described, comprising a tank triangular in transverse vertical section and adapted to normally rest upon one side with one apex up, said tank open at one end, a curb at said open end, and an expansible partition inclined from the apex of the open end inward to a point below the upper edge of the curb.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS BISCHOFF.
Witnesses F. J. KING, JOSEPH BARBER.
