DRYING DEVICE FOR INFANTS WEAR Filed Aug. 20, 1953 I INVENTOR.
AT?- ORA/EV United States PatcntO DRYING DEVICE FOR INFANTS WEAR Juanita W. Kleutgen, Fort Worth, Tex.
Application August 20, 1953, Serial No. 375,335
Claims. (Cl. 223-75) This invention relates to devices for handling and maintaining infants wear, such as small garments, bootees, stockings, and the like, and it has particular reference to devices on which such articles can be arranged for drying after the same are cleaned or laundred, and the principal object of the invention resides in the provision of a specially designed hanger embodying means for supporting the tiny and dainty garments in such a manner as to preserve their proper shape and appearance when subjected to washing.
An object of the invention is that of providing a device which is economical in structure, and having an attractive appearance, preferably formed of plastic materials, generally devoid of any roughened surfaces or protuberances which may hamper the application to and removal from the device of the relatively soft fabric materials of which articles of infants wear are commonly prepared.
Broadly, the invention contemplates the provision of a hanger device for articles of infants wear which is designed to maintain freshly laundered clothing in the proper condition and form, portions of the invention being shaped to receive the small stockings and bootees as these articles are worn by the infant and thus prevent any occurrence of distortion as to shape or size.
While the foregoing objects are paramount, other and lesser objects will become manifest as the description proceeds, taken in connection with the appended drawings wherein:
Figure l is a plan View of the invention, showing the tops of the foot members and means for securing the same to the hanger.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the invention showing a portion cut away to illustrate the manner of attachment of the foot members to the legs of the hanger.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan view of one of the foot members, on lines 33 of Figure 2, illustrating the interlocking association between the foot members and the circular flanges on the ends of the leg members.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view, on lines 4-4 of Figure 3, showing the frictional locking device, for the foot members, to the circular flanges, and
Figure 5 is an end elevational view of the invention illustrating more clearly the form of the foot members.
Accordingly, the invention comprises a hanger member which has a hook 11 formed therewith adapted to be arranged over any suitable support, such as a clothes hanger rod, or the like, and a pair of branched or spaced legs 12 which form parts of a body portion 13 which is normally in a horizontal position when the device is in use. It is desirable to form the entire structure of a plastic material.
Attached to the lower ends of the legs 12, preferably integral therewith, are circular flanges 14 whose plane surfaces are at right angles to the axes of the legs 12, as apparent in Figure 2. Each of the flanges 14 have notches 15 formed in diametrically opposite sides thereof, and preferably at their forward and rearward sides, and
"ice
lugs 16 are formed on their upper surfaces in opposing arrangement to the notches 15 and slightly to each side of the axes of the flanges 14,-as apparent in Figures 1 and 3.
Supported on and suspended from the flanges 14 are forms or foot members 17 which comprise cylindrical upper or body portions 18 having toe portions 19 formed therewith which project forwardly of the device, as shown in Figures 1 and 5. Near the upper rim 20 of each of the body portions 18, which may be provided with some decorative features, such as the scallops 21, are annular shoulders 22 which afford seats for the flanges 14, as shown in Figures 2 and 4.
Spaced above the shoulders 22, and on alignment opposite sides of the body portions 18 of the foot members 17, and transverse to the axes of the toe portions 19, are inwardly projecting integral pins 23 which pass through the opposing notches l5 and engage the upper surfaces of the flanges 14 when the foot members 17 are rotated one fourth turn to the stops or lugs 16, in the manner shown in Figures 1 and 3.
It is desirable that the upper surfaces of the flanges 14 be formed with slight inclinations 24 adjacent the lugs 16, as shown in Figure 4, to provide a relatively tight frictional engagement between the members 14 and the pins 23 when the toe portions 19 are pointed forwardly, as illustrated in Figures 2 and 5. Obviously, the device can be assembled and disassembled with a minimum of effort.
At the juncture of the neck 25 of the hook 11 with the horizontal body portion 13 of the hanger 10 are symmetrically formed plates 26 and 27 providing means for supporting such articles of infants wear as vests, sacques, and the like, for drying or for storage. Infants stockings or bootees are placed upon the foot members 17 by which their proper forms are maintained and to prevent distortion as to proper size.
Manifestly, the design and structure of the invention is capable of certain changes and modifications, from time to time, by persons skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
I. In a holder device for drying infants wear, in combination, a hanger member formed with a hook for attachment to a support and having a pair of depending spaced leg members, a flange formed at the extremity of each of said leg members, a foot, having a cylindrical body and a toe portion, detachably secured to each of said flanges, and plate members secured to said hanger member between said leg members for supporting a garment.
2. In a device for hanging infants wear for drying comprising a hook having a pair of leg members formed therewith and depending therefrom, the said leg members being spaced apart in the same vertical plane with said hook, a circular flange integrally formed with the outer end of each of said leg members and having diametrically opposing notches formed in its edges, a foot member, having a cylindrical body and a toe portion, attached to each of said flanges, the said body portions having internal projections adapted to be passed through said slots in said flanges and provide supports for said foot members.
3. In a holder for articles of infants wear while drying, the combination comprising a hanger formed with a hook, a horizontal body portion and a pair of spaced vertical legs depending from said body portion, a circular flange formed on the end of each of said legs and having notches formed in opposite sides thereof, a foot member attached to the flange of each of said legs, each of said foot members having cylindrical body portions and projecting toe portions, a pair of opposing projec- 3 tionsformed internally of the tops of said cylindrical portions engageable with said notches in said flanges and providing supporting means for said foot members, and a garment supporting element attached to said horizontal body portion of said lhanger.
4. in a device .for supporting articles of infants wear for drying, in combination, a hanger having a normally horizontal portion and a. hook :member for supporting the same, a .pair of spacedrlegs formed with and depending irom said body portion, a horizontally disposed diskshaped flange on the outer end of each of said legs, a drying form comprising a :foot member attached to each of said flanges and having a cylindrical body and a toe portion to conformably receive a pair of infants socks, and a garment :supporting element secured 10 the horizontal portion of said hanger between said legs.
5. ,In a device for supporting articles of infants wear for drying comprising, a hanger having a horizontal body and a .hook on said body 1501' suspending .the same irom a support, a depending leg on each end of said body, a circular flange attached to the outer end of each of said legs, a drying form for infants stockings having an interlocking association with and supported by each of said flanges and depending axially therefrom, each of said drying forms having cylindrical bodies and projecting toe portions thereon.
