vUnited States Patent O VIBRATING CONTOUR CHAIR Oliver P. Blake, Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Application August 2, 1954, Serial No. 447 ,249
3 Claims. (Cl. 12S- 33) My invention relates to improvements in vibrating contour chair in which relaxing and restful waves of vibration are sent to the feet, thigh and rump of a person reclining thereon, and while so reclining to personally change the angle of reclining by the lowering or raising the head of the vibrating contour chair.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a vibrating contour chair upon which a person may recline and receive resting and relaxing waves of vibration.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a vibrating contour chair upon which a person is reclining resting and relaxing with waves of vibration, with means for the reclining person to change the angle of reclining on the vibrating contour chair.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a vibrating contour chair upon which a person is reclining resting and relaxing, with means for him to apply waves of vibration to his feet, thigh and rump.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a vibrating contour chair upon which a person is reclining resting and relaxing with means of applying light or heavy Waves of vibration to the feet.
For further objects reference is made to the following description and the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective side view of the vibrating contour chair.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the vibrating contour chair on line 2 2, Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken through the vibrating contour chair on line 3-3, Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken through the vibrating contour chair on line 4 4, Fig. 1.
The vibrating contour chair 5, Fig. l, is for a person to recline thereon and receive waves of vibration to his feet, thighs and rump, and with means for him to change his angle of reclining on the cot 11. The base 6, Fig. 1, has a left side 6a, Fig. 1, and a right side 6b, Fig. 2, with arcuate groove 6c, 6c, Fig. 2. To the frame 11i of the cot 11, Fig. l and Fig. 2, there are secured the nut cross support 6d, Fig. 2, and a cross support 6e, Fig. 2.
The motorized speed reducer 7 is standard equipment and generally known as to its operation to reduce speed and to operate either forward or backward, and it is secured to the left side 6a and to the right side 6b, Fig. 1. The universal joint 8 is secured to the power screw 9 and the motorized speed reducer 7, Fig. 1. On the power screw 9 there is a nut 10 with a trunnion 10a and the trunnion 10a is secured to the nut cross support 6d, Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. To explain the operation, if the motorized speed reducer 7 is operated to the right, or forward, it will turn the power screw 9 to the right in the nut 10, and the nut 10 with its trunnion 10a secured to the nut cross support 6d of the frame 11i of the cot 11, will change the position of the frame 111', as supported on the arcuate tongue 11j, 11j in the arcuate groove 6c, 6c, to lower the head support 11a and to raise the shank and feet support 11e. The arcuate tongue 11j, 11j, in motion, moves in a semi-circle in the arcuate groove 6c, 6c. If the 2,715,901 Patented Aug. 23, 1955 motorized speed reducer 7 is operated to the left, or backwards, it turns the power screw 9 to the left in the nut 10, and the nut 10 with its trunnion 10a secured to the nut cross support 6d of the frame 11i of the cot 11, will change the position of the frame 11i, as supported on the arcuate tongue 11j, 11j in the arcuate groove 6c, 6c, to raise the head support 11a and to lower the shank and feet support 11e. The universal joint 8 and the trunnion 10a are to prevent the power screw 9 from binding in the nut 10 while the power screw 9 is being turned in the nut 10.
For the convenience of a person reclining on the vibrating contour chair 5, the cot 11 has a head support 11a, a back support 11b, a rump support 11e, a thigh Support 11d and a shank and feet support 11e. The cot 11 has a covering llf over padding 11g on gird type spring 11h, 11h, 11h, 11h et al. and supported by a frame 111', Figs. l and 2. The arcuate tongue 11]', 11j, Fig. 2, fits in the arcuate groove 6c, 6c, Fig. 2.
To the gird type spring 11h, 11h under the rump support 11C and to the gird type spring 11h, 11h under the thigh support 11d there is an electric motor 12, 12 secured by a bolt 12a, 12a, 12a, 12a to the gird type spring 11h, 11h and on the motor shaft 12b, 12b there is an eccentric 12e, 12e secured by a thumb screw 12d, 12d, Figs. l, 2 and 3.
The foot unit 13, Figs. 1 and 4, has a covering 13a over padding 13b supported on short gird type spring 13C, 13C secured to the foot frame 13g; and the bracket 13d is secured to the foot unit 13 and the slide 13e. The slide 13e is provided with a tongue 13)c that fits in the slot 11k in the frame 11i (lower part of Fig. 4). The slide 13e can be moved back and forward in the slot 11k. The spring 14 is secured to the slide 13e and to the frame 11i and pulls the foot unit 13 towards the cot 11. A
person reclining on the vibrating contour chair 5 may have heavy or light waves of vibration applied to his feet, depending on the amount of pressure he places against the foot unit 13, as held against the cot 11 by the spring 14. To the short gird type spring 13C, 13C there is an electric motor 12 secured by a bolt 12a, 12a, 12a, 12a, Fig. 4; and on the motor shaft 12b there is an eccentric 12e secured by a thumb screw 12d, Fig. 4.
When the electric motor 12, 12, 12 is in operation the eccentric 12e, 12C, 12e causes it to vibrate and send waves of vibration through the gird type spring 11h, 11h, 11h, 11h in the cot 11 and the small gird type spring 13C, 13a` in the foot unit 13 to the person reclining on the cot 11.
The electric motor 12, 12, 12 is operated by control switch 15, Fig. 1. The motorized speed reducer 7 is operated by the three-way switch 16, Fig. 1.
I claim:
l. A vibrating contour chair, for a person to recline thereon and receive resting and relaxing waves of vibration, comprising of a base with an arcuate groove to engage an arcuate tongue on the frame of a cot that has covering over padding on a gird type spring and head, back, rump, thigh, shank and feet support, with vibrating assembly on the gird type spring for the rump and thigh; and a vibrating foot assembly on a gird type spring adjustable to the feet.
2. A vibrating contour chair, for a person to recline thereon and receive resting and relaxing waves of vibration, comprising of a base with an arcuate groove to engage an arcuate tongue on the frame of a cot that has covering over padding on a gird type spring and head, back, rump, thigh, shank and feet support, with vibrating assembly on the gird type spring for the rump and thigh; and a vibrating foot assembly on a gird type spring adjustable to the feet; and means of the reclining person to change the angle of reclining while receiving waves of vibration to the rump, thigh and feet.
3.Y A vibrating contour chair, for a person to recline thereon and receive resting and relaxing waves of vibration, comprising of a base with an arcuate grooverto engage an arcuate tongue on the frame of a cot that has covering over padding on a gird type spring and head,
back, rump, thigh, shank and feet support, with vibrating assembly on the gird type spring for the rump and thigh; and Ya vibrating foot assembly on a gird type spring adjustable to the feet and with means of receiving light or heavy waves of vibraticn to the feet; and means of the reclining person to change the angle of reclining while receiving waves of vibration to the rump, thigh and feet.
