It will be readily appreciated that in fishing from the side of a boat in this manner, one must either straddle sit normally therethe seat board of the boat or must upon and then twist himself about to face the side of the boat. in either event, an uncomfortable position must be assumed.

The main object of the present invention, in view of the above, is to provide a foldable or demountable boat chair which, though so designed as to be foldable into a small area when not in use, will still be readily mountable adjacent a conventional seat board in such a manner as to afford a comfortable chair for a fisherman, which chair will face one side of the boat.

Another object of importance is to provide a demountable chair of the character referred to which can be set up or collapsed with minimum difiiculty, and in a small amount or" time.

Another object of importance is to provide a demountable chair for boats which will be capable of use in boats of different types and sizes, the boat chair constituting the 1 present invention having extendable legs for the purpose of disposing the seat portion of the chair at an elevation substantially approximating that at which the seat board of the boat is disposed above the boat bottom.

Another object of importance is to provide a chair of at low cost, but which will to be capable of withstanding hard usage.

Other objects will appear from the following description, the claims appended thereto, and from the annexed drawing, in which like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views, and wherein:

In this way, the seat 16 is adapted to be detachably connected, along said edge, to the seat board, and when so connected will be arranged alongside the seat board.

Foldabiy connected to the opposite or outer side edge of the seat 16 is a supporting leg assembly, said leg assembly including a pair of upper leg members 20. The members 20 are connected by hinges 22 to the outer side edge of the seat 16, said members swinging about an axis paralleling the seat board 12. When the members 20 are swung toward the seat 16, they will be disposable in of the seat, thus to permit the chair to be collapsed into a relatively compact assembly capable of storage in a small area.

Spaced longitudinally of each member 20 are rectangular guide sleeves 24, these being fixedly connected to each member 20 by means of nails 26 or equivalent fastening elements. The sleeves 24 are proportioned to receive lower leg members 28, the lower leg members 28 thus being connected to movement longitudinally of said upper leg members. In this way, each leg, defined by a leg member 20 and a leg member 28 is of a longitudinally extensible nature. The arrangement thus permits the seat 16 to be disposed upper leg members 20, thus to connect the leg members 20 for joint swinging movement about their common hinge axis.

Cotter keys 34 are employed for the purpose of connecting the legmembers 2t), 28 in selected positions of relative longitudinal adjustment, the leg members 20 having a single opening and the leg members 28 having a longitudinal series of openings 36 any one of which can be registered with the opening of member 20.

Brace means is employed for the the supporting leg assembly in a position extending downcross bar 30.

To the other end of the brace bar 38 is connected a hinge 44, said hinge being attached to the underside of the seat 16.

It will be seen that when the supporting leg assembly has been swung downwardly from the seat 16, to its vertical position shown in Figure 2, the brace bar 38 can be swung about its hinge axis, the tongue 40 then being extended into the keeper 42 for the purpose of holding the supporting leg assembly in its use position.

A seat back has been designated by the reference numeral 46 and is attached by hinges 48 to the seat 16,

the hinge axis of the seat back being extended normally to the hinge axis of the supporting leg assembly.

The seat back, when swung to its use position, is held by chains 50 or equivalent flem'ble elements.

It will be seen that the structure can be folded into a flat assembly when not in use. When, however, the structure is to be used, it can be attached quickly to the seat board, and will permit the fisherman to face the side of the boat from which he desires to fish, in a comfortable seated position.

It is believed apparent that the invention is not necessarily confined to the specific use or uses thereof described above, since it may be utilized for any purpose to which it may be suited. Nor is the invention to be necessarily limited to the specific construction illustrated and described, since such construction is only intended to be illustrative of the principles of operation and the means presently devised to carry out said principles, it being considered that the invention comprehends any minor change in construction that may be permitted within the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A foldable, demountable chair for support by and between the seat board and bottom of a boat, comprising: a flat seat adapted to extend horizontally from one side of said seat board with one side edge of said seat supported directly upon said side of the seat board; clamp bars rigidly secured to the underside of the seat and spaced along said edge thereof, said bars having one end in contact with the underside of the seat, and having their other ends offset downwardly from the underside of the seat and projecting laterally beyond said side edge portion of the seat to define, between the downwardly otlset ends of the clamp bars and said side edge portion of the seat, a seat-board-receiving space mto which the seat board may extend in the operative position of the seat with the downwardly offset ends of the clamp bars adapted to engage against the underside of the seat board; and a supporting leg assembly hingedly connected to the opposite side edge of said seat for swinging movement about an axis paralleling said seat board, and extending downwardly in one position to which said assembly is swung about said axis, to engage with the bottom of the boat.

2. A foldable and demountable chair for support by and between the seat board and bottom of a boat, comprising: a seat adapted to extend horizontally from one side of said seat board; means at one side edge of the seat for engaging said side of the seat board to support the seat thereupon; a supporting leg assembly hingedly L connected to the opposite side edge of the seat for swinging movement between one position in which said assembly is collapsed against the underside of the seat, and another position in which the assembly extends vertically downwardly from the seat to engage said boat bottom, said assembly including a pair of legs spaced along said opposite side edge and hinged at one end to the seat, said assembly further including a cross bar extending horizontally between the legs; and brace means extendable between the seat and leg assembly in the second named position of the leg assembly, said brace means including a brace bar hinged at one end to the underside of the seat, an angular tongue fixed to the other end of the brace bar and extending downwardly from the brace bar, and a keeper secured to the midlength portion of the cross bar, said keeper being formed as a horizontally extending member having a midlength part oiiset outwardly from the cross bar to define an opening between the cross bar and midlength part into which said tongue is removably extendable.

3. A foldable and demountable chair for support between the seat board and bottom of a boat, comprising a seat adapted to extend horizontally from one side of said seat board, one side edge of the seat being adapted for support directly upon said seat board; a leg assembly hingedlyconnected to the opposite side edge of said seat, for swinging movement between one position to which said assembly is collapsed against the underside of the seat, and another position in which said leg assembly extends vertically downwardly from the seat to engage against said boat bottom, said leg assembly including a pair of upper leg members hingedly connected at one end to said opposite side edge of the seat, said members swinging about an axis paralleling the seat board, guide sleeves spaced longitudinally of each upper leg member and fixedly connected to their associated leg members, said sleeves being substantially greater in area than the cross sectional area of the members and projecting laterally from said members, lower leg members extending into the laterally projecting parts of the sleeves and slidable within the sleeves longitudinally of the upper leg members for adjustably extending each leg of said assembly, one of the members of each leg having a single opening and the other member of the same leg having a longitudinal series of openings any of which is registrable with said single opening, a pin extendable through the registering openings for securing the members of each leg against movement relative to one another, in selected positions to which the lower leg member is shifted longitudinally of the upper leg member, and a cross bar rigid at its ends with and extending between the upper leg members adjacent the other ends of said upper leg members; and brace means extending between said seat and cross bar for bracing the leg assembly in said other position thereof, said brace means including a brace bar rigid from end to end thereof and hinged at one end to the seat, said brace bar being separably connectable at its other end to the midlength portion of the cross bar.
