DRAWING-ROLLER FOR SPINNING AND DRAWING FRAMES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 270,432, dated January 9, 1883.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE HILL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Drawing-Roller for Spinning and Drawing Frames, of which the tollowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention consists in a roller having a center-and a covering thereof, formed of a mass of glue, oil, and leather, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is an end elevation of my improved roller for spinning and drawing frames. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional elevation of the same on the line as m. Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of a modification of the same.
I make the roller 01' shreds of leather of all kinds. These shreds of leather are mixed with glue and oil in the following proportions:
a center, B, of metal, which has its periphery grooved to receive part of the leather mass to hold it on the center; or the center can beprovided with a series of studs, a, projecting from the periphery into the leather mass surrounding it. These rollers can be made of diti'erent sizes, as may he required.
I am aware that it is not new to mixleathershavings with gums and mold them'into blocks or cylinders or rollers; 01' to mix leather-shavings with hair and a compound of caseine, gluten, oxide of lead, turpentine, and gutta-perchat; or to mix gum and caoutchouc with metallic layers, textile fabrics, or leather and cement; also, to cover a roll on the outside with an outer covering of leather, parchment, or paper; but
