3 Claims. (Cl. 20--62) This invention relates to new and useful improvements n alousiewindows and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved mounting means for the alousie-holding clips of jalousie windows.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a alousie-holding clip for jalousie windows ncluding a trunnion adapted to enter an aperture in a jamb and a combined locking and bearing element engageable over the trunnion and yieldingly engaged in the aperture to maintain the clip secured to the jamb and relatively close to the jamb for the purpose of obviating undesirably spacing between the clip and jamb.
Yet another object of the present invention is to prov1de a novel and improved jalousie clip mounting means that Wlll reduce considerably the time and labor required for the installation of jalousies.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a combined locking and bearing element of the aforementloned character consisting of a split resilient sleeve having substantially frusto-conical end portions one of which will enter an accommodating aperture in a jamb after the other end has been frictionally forced through the aperture to maintain the trunnion of a clip lockably engaged with a supporting jamb.
A still further aim of the present invention is to prov1de a clip mounting means for jalousie windows that is extremely simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, small and compact in structure, neat and attractlve in appearance, inexpensive to produce and install, and otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a jalousie window in which the present invention is embodied;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail horizontal sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 3-3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a group perspective view showing a jalousie holding clip and the manner in which the same is secured to a jamb, and 1 Figure 5 is a perspective view of the locking ring per se.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral represents a jalousie window structure including a substantially rectangular frame 12 having a pair of spaced parallel stiles or vertical members 14 whose forward edges are formed with rearwardly facing vertically disposed channel shaped portion 16.
Vertically spaced substantially channel shaped jalousie holding clips or brackets 18 are pivotally attached to the inner opposing vertical flanges 20 of the channel shaped portions 16. The clips 18 on one stile are arranged in pairs with the clips 18 on the other stile so that the end edges of jalousies or slats 22 may be yieldingly engaged with the clips and more particularly between the upper and lower flanges 24 and 26 of the clips. The lower flanges 24 of the clips are formed with end gripper tongues 28 that engage the forward faces of the slats 22 to retam the slots against the lower flanges 26.
The rear ends of the channel shaped lips 18 are formed Patented Dec. 28, 1954 with oflset ears 30 which are pivotally secured by pins or the like 32 to vertical actuating or synchronizing bars 34 contained within the hollow stiles 14, so that all of the clips 18 may be swung simultaneously by an operating mechanism 36 that is carried by the frame 12 and operatively connected by a pitman link to one of the bars 34 when jalousies are supported between the pairs of clips.
The present invention does not attempt to claim the aforedescribed clip but deals primarily in the manner in which the clips 18 are pivotally secured to the vertical flanges 20 of the channel shaped portion 16. This feature is accomplished by headed pivot pins 40 and split, preferably stainless steel, lock rings or bearing sleeves 42, the latter being provided with frusto-conical or tapered ends 44 and 46 whose major surfaces meet at a peripheral edge 48 substantially midway between the ends of the lock rings 42.
Lock rings 42 are slipped over the shank portions 50 of the pins 40 before the reduced ends 52 of the shank portions 50 are extended through apertures 51 in and peened over against, the connecting webs 54 of the clips 18. Rings 42 are then located between and against the lslgad portions 56 of the pins 40 and the connecting webs while ends 46 are positioned in the apertures 59 and against the walls defining the apertures 59.
Thus, the head portion of the pins 40 are extended with the lock rings 42 through the apertures 59 to yieldingly retain the clips 18 pivotally supported on the flanges 20 so that jalousies may be engaged with the clips. Such ready and convenient mounting of the clip on the jamb will permit installation of jalousies by a single maintenance man regardless as to the height of the jamb.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In a jalousie window structure including a frame having a pair of spaced parallel stiles and a plurality of jalousie holding clips; means pivotally attaching the clips to the stiles comprising, a trunnion fixed to each clip, said stiles having apertures receiving said trunnions, each of said trunnions comprising a pivot pin having a head portion spaced from the clips, a split lock ring engaged over each pin and engaged against said head portion, said lock rings having first and second frusto-conical end portions and peripheral edges defining the meeting ends of said frusto-conical end portions, the first end portions of said lock rings being forced through the apertures and the second end portions of said rings being disposed against the edges defining the apertures.
2. In a jalousie holding clip and a supporting flange for the clip provided with an aperture, a pivot pin secured to and projecting laterally from the clip and having a head portion spaced from the clip, a lock ring engaged over the pin and having first and second ends respectively engaging said head portion and said clip, said lock ring being split and capable of expansion and contraction, the first end of said ring being tapered to fit through said aperture and contract said ring as the head portion is extended through the aperture, said ring also having a peripheral edge portion of a diameter greater than the diameter of the aperture, said ring being contracted as the first end is forced through the aperture to position said edge portion behind the flange.

In a jalousie holding clip and a supporting flange for the clip provided with an aperture, a pivot pin secured to and projecting laterally from the clip and having a head portion spaced from the clip, a lock ring engaged over the pin and having first and second ends respectively engaging said head portion and said clip, said lock ring being split and capable of expansion and contraction, the first end of said ring being tapered to fit through said aperture and contract said ring as the head portion is extended through the aperture, said ring also having a peripheral edge portion of a diameter greater than the diameter of the aperture, said ring being contracted as the first end r 3 1s forced through the aperture to position said edge portiii Behind the flange, said seeend end being frustoconical and located within the aperture and against the edges defining the aperture to form a bearing for the pin.
