Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 12, 1915.
Application filed November 12. 1913. Serial No. 800,570.
To 11!? w/mm it may concern.
lie it known that 1, DAVID M. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mclrose i'ark. State of lllinois, have invented new and useful improvementsin Combined Shade- Rollcr and (flurtainPole Supports, of whichthe following is a specification.
This invention relates to combination shade and curtain pole supporters and the principal objectof the invention is to proi ide a simple and eiiicient device of this character which may be attached to the Window frame and removed therefrom Without in any way ellecting the appearance of the frame or damaging itsiinish.
Another object oi": the invention is to provide a combined shade and curtain pole support consisting of two brackets so connected to the frame that when the shade is mount- 7 ed therein the brackets are held against displacement and'may only i the i'ranie after the shade has been d1sconand is provided with arm 4 provided With a recess in its outer end as shown at5 to recelve the curtain pole be removed from nected therefrom.
Furtherobjects of the invention Will ap pear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, and in which:
'Figure l is a front elevation; Fig. is a top plan view; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the brackets; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of bracket arranged to be applied to cornice capped frames.
Referring more pl1tlCuli11'l}"t0 the drawing, 1 represents an ordinary window frame and 2 and represent the separate shade and curtain pfole supporting brackets to be attached thereto. Each of these brackets is constructed from a single piece of l'netal a laterally extending 6. The arm lot the bracket 2 is provided with a vertical slot 7 constructed slit ting the arm and bending the ad oining members inwardly as shown.
This slit is arranged to receive the rectangular end of a spring shaft of the shade roller 7 While the arm 4: on the bracket 3. is provided with an aperture adapted to receive the pivoting nintle of said shade roller. The. principal in the c'oiinty of Cook and "supporting flange so as to fit end of each bracket 2 and 3 has a right an- 9 adapted to receive the headed fastening devices 10. The key-hole slots inithe bracket, I
:2 are arranged in opposition to the key hole slots in the brackets In other words, the small ends of the slots of toward the small ends of the bracket 3 so that when engaged with fasteners 10 and the roller 7 is in position therein, the brackets cannot be brought toward each other and disengaged from the fasteners.
In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the upper end of the bracket is bent outwardly and vertically and then rearwardly into the oi er the cornlce cap"12 secured to the, frame 1. brackc't is attached in a similar manner to the brackets 2 and 3 and in both forms the flanges 8 have lugs 13 bentup at opposite ends so to provide araised. part or pro jection which may be struck with a hammer so as to engage the brackets with the fastening devices or disengage them therefrom.
When the brackets are initially applied to the Window i'rame. the shade roller is laced in position between the brackets ant both brackets are placed upon the top of the frame. The fastening devices are then driven into the small end of each key hole slot. Whenit is desired. to disconncctthc brackets. the shade roller is first removed therefrom and the projections "13' tapped with a hammer or other tool so as to drive the brackets toward each other.
What claimed isz- 1. A combined shade roller and. curtain pole support comprising a pair frame engaging flanges thereon, having key hole slots therein,
of brackets, said flanges the. key-hole 'slots in one bracket being arranged opposite to those in the other bracket, iastening do irame and passing;
having keyhole slots therein, the key-hole 105 slots in one bracket being arranged opposite the bracket 2 point 60 This 70 and locking means for said bracket formed integral with said flanges and in longitudinal alinement with the key-hole slots, and cmtain pole receiving means on the bracket.
In testimony w ereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID M. ALLEN.
